Just introducing myself as someone coming back to hi-fi after quite a long period of inactivity (too many house moves; kit always in boxes etc).

Thanks to eBay, I have sold most of my previous kit (Martin Logan electrostatics, Meridian electronics including monoblock power amps, pre amp, tuner and venerable 207 CD player) and am now embarking on building up again. The only items I have hung onto from my previous set up includes the LP12 with mc cartridge (good enough for me) and my ageing but terrific Classe pre and power amps - maybe getting on a bit but oodles of refinement, control and power.

Looking forward to a new CD player and speakers as a priority, and venturing into the mysterious world of streaming and network-stored downloads.... How things move on!

Glad to see you're reinvigorating your hifi - I don't know how you managed without one! (Even when I moved into temporary accommodation for just 6 weeks I had to have my hifi...)

If your looking for a CD player, I'd suggest one based on the TDA1541(a) chipset, probably the best implementation would be something like the Meridian 207. Oh, hang on... ;) Seriously, if you're thinking about looking at File Based Audio, then you may find you end up with a redundant CD player anyway, so may be a good idea to start with a music computer and see if you can live without a spinner? Plenty of us will be able to help you spend your money whatever you're looking for! :lol:

You have to be careful with these Alex as there are two types of 207, the earlier version which looks exactly the same used the TDA1540 which was only a 14 bit DAC :eyebrows: It's not as if most owners will allow you to pull it to bits to take a look now is it :lol:
