Tracking Power Supplies .... :-)

I have boxes of power supplies - doesn't everyone else. Trouble is, that if things are left in the boxes for too long I forget which ones go with which.

Sometimes I can figure it out by the connectors, but not always. Manufacturers and suppliers aren't always helpful, as they don't always give the details needed in the specs or user manuals.

Maybe nobody else here ever has this problem. I keep meaning to put labels on the darn things, but somehow it never happens.

I wish there were a list of PSUs for different kit .... but maybe I really should just go with labelling.

Latest issue concerns the PSU for a Bantam Gold amp. I think it is this one -
Power Pax VK, SW3127 DC 15V 3A (100-240V AC) with a positive centre pin round connector.

Can anyone confirm this, before I blow the amp up?

Best to buy a cheapo multimeter and you can easily read voltage, polarity etc. This is the only safe way. Multimeters can be had from £6.00 upwards.

Maybe, but I got it sorted anyway. As I suspected that PSU was the one for the Bantam Gold. As I said, it'd be a lot easier if some suppliers/manufacturers put the details in their instruction/user manuals. Actually I have a meter, but that wouldn't necessarily help if the device doesn't have any info either. A lot of kit does have little pictures with volts, amps and the connections on the back, but not all - which may be relevant to the device in question. OK - we might not quite expect this from some cottage industry outlets, but it shouldn't be impossible to provide the information - even if ONLY online or in the manual.

By using a multimeter you can check the voltage, polarity and current of the psu before plugging it into the amp (and check that it is working correctly if an old one). Ask for the amp input spec from the manufacturer if you can.
