Right, well I haven't done one of these for a while - let's build a collaborative list of great songs or tracks featuring the harmonica.

If we get enough I'll do a Spotify playlist (if they're on there of course.)

This was inspired by playing some Stevie Wonder today (so many of his tracks to choose from) - but I'll start it off with Stevie Wonder - Boogie on Reggae Woman.

ooh, ooh, me. I've got one!

Larry Carlton, Take Me Down, last track on the album Sapphire Blue (but not the only track with great harmonica).

Amazing album, flawless production. This track is a duel between harmonica and guitar only. If you don't get two guys standing in your room, playing from the hip, then rip up your system and start again :stalks:

Cheers Steve - I'll be optimistic and start a Spotify playlist... :)

Little Walter was the harp player on both tracks by the way, and he's probably the best Blues harp player of all time IMHO

I suggested 'My Babe' by Little Walter - not to worry, the more of him the better, eh?

Some of us went to a gig last night with a band that featured a very good harmonica player.

Steve 'West' Weston

I think there's a saying in the blues world that the harp player always gets the shittiest mic - that's how they get such a dirty sound.

I was there as well, and can confirm Steve West is really a very good harmonica player. (A report will follow - when I get around to it.)

Regarding the thread title, I think you have covered it with Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson (both I and II) as far as blues is concerned. I would also like to mention Paul Jones, Brian Jones and of course the (greatly misunderstood) Bob Dylan.

Oh, and Larry Adler; but now were talking a completely different generation and genre.

Billy Joel - Piano Man

Which he plays at the same time as the piano! Awesome video from Old Grey Whistle Test 1975 - including 70's porn-star 'tache!
