Was reading through the Caiman PSU threads and I noticed Stan you mention the above gizmo in the thread?

Any movement on that, sure a lot of us would be interested? :eyebrows:

thanks.
G.

Stan has actually suggested this to me in the interim:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/MASTECH-LAB-GRADE-DC-POWER-SUPPLY-0-18V-0-3A-LEADS-/230567825116?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35aee9cedc

I've been running it at 16V per his recommendation and have been very happy with the results. Thank you Stan! :)

Ripple and noise at <1mV rms seems very good?
Not everyone wants (or CAN in my case) build a custom PSU and the TeddyPardo ones over £200.

Seems a good option, bit big too hide behind the rack though...Want to fit it and forget it, not sure I could!

Wonder how this and the Lambda one here would match up?

Same kind of spec except the lab supply is variable from 0V to probably 30V (usual voltage). You have an adjustment of 10% on the fixed supply so getting 16V from a 15V unit maybe possible. In theory you can get 15.75V DC.

I somehow doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between them sound wise as with similar performance they should sound the same

Just noticed summit about the Lambda supply?

From the specs:

Input voltage range
100 / 115 / 200 / 230VAC(User selectable)

not suitable for the UK? :(

Also
Max output current 1.4Amps.
Is this enough for the Gator'd Caiman?

I remember one of the guys here was using this with his Dac and upgraded it for the £200 Pardo supply.
Be good to ask him, but I cant remember who it is!

Don't like the look of the shipping charges!! :stalks:

230V AC is fine, it means it's rated for use in the UK. 1.4A is plenty, it's a DAC, not an amplifier ;)

Not quite sure if it is a save mod to carry out for the average soldering iron owner. As you can see from the pics, it is a close shave.

Bottom part of the PCB

Top part of the PCB

The location of the breaks in the tracks between the legs of the coils is highly critical due to the close vicinity of the surrounding tracks. I am using a pair of 2.2mH 250mA coils, which are just about the right size. Visible reduction in noise and spikes is better than the Maplin CB PSU. But this brings up another problem: I can now separate the noise on the various PCBs from the PSU noise. So now it's on to finding ways of reducing those with new mods.

So it is work in progress. Not sure though if this is a non-skilled mod.

looks easy enough to me:eyebrows:

I assume you can do this to a 7510.

Looks like one inductor in the - DC feed and one in the + DC feed.

It will work in the TC-7510. Just make sure that the current rating is at least 180mA. Otherwise you'll get a voltage drop that stops the 12V regulator from working. Also use at least a 13.8V PSU on the TC-7510/TC-7520.

All right for some  :)

good your working on it Stan as you said, be good though to get a "black box" solution for us electronic numpties! :eyebrows:

 But can I bothered? I have done so much to it that it might be more problem to dismantle it, than to add the inductors! :eyebrows:

I am currently having fun with a modded Sony PS1 and linear PS. Really quite surprising.

Yeah..
the original PS1 (with RCA sockets) is supposed to be quite the CD player when modded?

Stonking when you can pick them up for £4.99 on ebay:eek:
