KEF IQ30 Speakers...?

OK so I'm looking at buying a pair of standmount speakers along the lines of:
KEF IQ30's
Tannoy DC4's
Dali Ikon 1's
Now I know that the Tannoy's and the KEF's are now constructed in China but I'll try desperately not to hold that against them. Dali's I've owned before and I loved them but these have a ribbon supertweeter and that may be a problem.
Does anyone have anything they can add in the way of constructive comments...?

By the way, I major on stereo imaging hence my choice of point source speakers like the KEF's and Tannoy's. I heard the KEF Uni-Q driver years ago and was blown away by the imaging but back then it had other issues. I hear that now it is probably well sorted.

You could try some speakers using the D'Appolito driver arrangement, otherwise known as MTM ;) You'd have to make sure that the tweeter is at ear level though. At that point you'd get the same effect vertically as a point source so perhaps toeing in the speakers so they point directly at you would take care of it horizontally to :scratch:

I run a pair of iq50s.The small floor stander model.I have listened to them against far more expensive standmounters and floorstanders and found them to have a good ballance in presentation.The tweeter is really good but I feel susceptable to brightness if partnered with bright electronics or cables.

Many thanks for your response to my query. All of the speakers I have mentioned above are now on special offer due to them being discontinued and given the one hundred percent markup on consumer electronics, if I can get a six hundred quid pair of speakers for three hundred, I as sure as hell am going to.

I'd love to know what consumer electronics make 100% mark up, I'd set up a shop!

Standard retail markup in the UK is two and a half times meaning that if you want to know the true value of an item to the retailer you just divide the shop price by 2.5. That makes the margin on consumer electronics around 100% or double.

Read something interesting on WTF forum. Acoustic Energy are thinking about releasing a active version of the AE1. The designer said it sounded better then a pair of passive AE1s through a Naim supernait, Having heard the AE1s i for one would be interested. They are not sure if there is a market for them but are thinking about a july release date and a price of £500.

Active AE1's at £500, Colin? I sincerely doubt it!? The "Classic" in passive is £1,000 - they surely can't add amps and cut the price in half, can they? :scratch:

I absolutely adore the original AE1 Mk1 but at £1020 give or take a bit they are way ahead of my pocket and the rest of my gear.

I also like the look of the cheaper Dynaudio speakers but I've never had the pleasure of actually listening. Who know's, maybe I ought to.

When i was looking for bookshelves i went to unilet in london . They had loads to compare and customer service was a lot better than the chains.
Great vinyl selection to. Could be worth a weekend trip.
