For Sale: Beyerdynamic DT531 headphones

These surely need no introduction. Once the flagship of the Beyerdynamic range, they are an open backed design, similar to the current DT880 and they still stand comparison with DT880's, HD600's etc.

The pads have been off for a wash and have come up very nicely but replacement pads are readily available anyway.

These work very nicely from my NuForce uDAC-2 and sound sublime from the Audiolab. I'm selling them only because the M50's with their closed backs better suit my musical tastes so the Beyers aren't getting much use.

The original foam covering the ear pieces rotted and fell out. It has been replaced with a slightly thicker foam and a smart grey cloth. This has given them a slightly warmer less toppy sound which is an improvement in my opinion. The original could come across as a bit bright and shiny. It's very easy to experiment in this department as the pads just pop off.

For those who like numbers, they are 250 ohm, weigh 245 grams on your head (about 302g with the cable on my kitchen scales) and though Beyerdynamic don't quote a sensitivity, I would put it around 96 dB/mW so not ideal for iPods but fine out of a laptop or a hifi. Frequency response is quoted as 10 Hz to 30 kHz but these are open backed so don't expect them to sound like a subwoofer on your head - you need closed back 'phones for that.

Yours for £40 - a taste of high-end headphone sound for peanuts.
