Can someone fill me in, i've just got what i thought was a Nagaoka mp11 off ebay, however it turns out to be an mp15 body with an mp11 stylus, the seller did include the original mp15 stylus as well, but what's the difference?

Well you've just got a bargain, then! The MP15 was double the price of an MP11 - the main differences are that the MP15 is a gram heavier, tracks at 1.8g (vs 2.0 - 2.5 for the MP11) and has a block diamond stylus rather than an elliptical. Unless it was an MP11 Boron you thought you were buying then I suspect the MP15 will be a better cartridge - whether there's any difference in the actual body internals, I don't know (the output is slightly lower at 4.5mv for the MP15 as opposed to 5mv for the 11 so maybe.)

Well the MP15 has a different colour body, you should have noticed unless he posted up a stock photo.

I'd maybe be a bit cautious of that MP15 stylus - sounds like he had an MP15 and when the stylus wore out he couldn't afford a new MP15 stylus, so went for a cheaper MP11 one instead.

AFAIK, the body is the same.

Yes mate it was a stock photo, what i've got is the original mp15 body and stylus, plus a new genuine mp11 stylus, and to be honnest i've looked at the diamond on the mp15 under a magnifying glass and it looks good still

IMHO well worth waiting for one to come up - I bought a NOS MP11 Boron stylus on Ebay a while ago and put it in a stock MP10 body - absolutely stunning - phenomenal bass and superb tracking - enjoyment wise only bettered by my Decca Blue.

So i've gone away and done a little digging of my own, and found that the mp11 and mp15 aren't quite the same, for a start the mp15 has a mass of 7.8g as against only 6.8g for the mp11 and the tracking weights are different too, so my next question is, if i have an mp11 stylus fitted to an mp15 body, which tracking weight do i use?

Apart from that and the output voltage being slightly different they are much the same, overall dimensions with regards to the stylus housing are the same, so it looks like the guy i got it off has either got an mp11 stylus, cos a. he couldn't get an mp15 or b. an mp15 was too expensive, to be honnest i've had the tip of the mp15 stylus under a strong magnifying glass and it looks in good condition, i suppose i'll never know the history of the cartridge, and can't guess why anyone would replace a perfectly good stylus if they didn't need to:scratch: all i can say is i'm a happy bunny:) and i'd like to thank everyone who has given me advice in other threads with respect to cartridges, it sounds great, a load better than both my at110 and the c77 and i've got 2 good styli, just incase, pitty it looks like a lump of square poo though:lolsign:

The MP11 stylus will define the parameters. So, whatever the tracking weight for the MP11 is, that's what you use - give or take a bit.

MP11 Boron was a nice cartridge.
If you have the MP15 body it will likely be slightly better than the MP11 body due to tighter manufacturing tolerance. You did well in other words :)
