View Full Version : At these prices, I seriously wonder

On the face of it, arguably too good to be true. Either that, or retailers like me are misjudging the used market severely.

To me (as a civilian rather than a retailer) these items shown below, which are merely illustrative, are almost irresistible. Strangely in the past, most of the items I've been interested in such as Meridian, vintage Krell and so on have ALL been ‘resident’ in the Orkney Islands. A strange coincidence perhaps.

Anyway, for those interested in this sort of thing, here are a few links to what at face value are serious bargains.

I always get nervous about listings like that  The first link is a true bargain for sure, if it's real...

Why do i always think that there is going to be some bunch of lads waiting for you to turn up with the cash

I think you don't need to use too much imagination to see where i'm coming from if people will mug you for what's in your pocket & a mobile phone...

Hmmm! All a bit like the Levinson gear you posted - suspiciously good value for money!

And even a Kidney - if they are so inclined. How long before genuine body parts on eBay? Mind you, you'd have to have delivery within 4 hours of the item being online of course. Only a matter of time I guess.

Well the description in the first item doesn't square with the photo that it refers to:

As you can see from the picture # 2 the unit has had 64 hours of use.

Picture no. 2 is of the back of the unit...........

I'm going to be possibly a little controversial here and say that in all honesty these prices seem realistic in all cases.

The second hand market for professional and semi-professional gear has plummeted over the last 12 months and thankfully we are seeing far less of the abject silliness with regard to pricing on old tape machines and the like (when I say old I mean at least 30 years).

It does also seem to indicate a shift in priorities with regard to music in the home now.

Well I used to live on Orkney and I didn't have any of that gear:scratch:

Scams, man.

You could make a decent living buying at those prices and selling them on again on eBay.

If it looks too good to be true, it is too good to be true! ... well, 9 times out of 10, anyway! ;) Are you feeling lucky?

Hasn't stopped you from offering a few real bargains to others ;).

I saw a cdp player on there in the darkest corner of Ireland. Seller couldn't post so when I called his bluff and said i'd come get it, it was radio silence.

Saw a Linn CD12 Sondek on gumtree in Leeds. Needless to say it didn't exist.
