Thats my constitutional duty done this time round. Lets wait and see if my vote counts for anything this time....:lol:
Just done mine as well, first ever vote in a referendum...
I've learned my lesson not to talk about politics, religion or royalty, so I shan't get into it again! However, I did read in the paper this morning (Metro on the train to London) that the referendum has cost £90 Million, and if "Yes" wins, it will cost another £230 Million to implement the new system... Still, a mere drop in the ocean as I also heard yesterday on the radio that UK plc is borrowing £400 Million a day - so how's another £320 Million going to do any harm...?

The cost of implementing a new system is irrelevant, in my opinion, as long as the one implemented is the right one. The crux of the biscuit, however, is that what we're being offered is not the right one because it's the one that no one really wants.
A bit surprised Alex has gone all shy on us. Surprising what the shadow of the guillotine will do :lol:
Oh arr, best add Hi Fi to the list Alex and just sit there quietly behind the sofa eating biscuits.

I voted "No" - the proposed AV system in my opinion is daft - which is why hardly any other country uses it. There's nothing wrong in my opinion with first past the post - the biggest problem is in the apathy getting people to actually vote... It would be crazy I believe to adopt a system where a person who actually came second or third in number of votes cast would become elected...

I aint saying which way I voted but what we really need is full proportional representation.
The important thing is that we were given a referendum. There are many issues in previous years where I wish we had had a choice in the matter. I've cast my vote and we shall see ;)

I am assuming you are replying to my previous post so..
Candidate A = 99 votes
Candidate B = 98 votes
Candidate C = 97 votes.
So with only 1/3 of the votes (give or take 1 or 2) Candidate A wins.
That answers the statement...

Which is exactly what we have in this example.
It amazes me the number of people who completely misunderstand how AV would work, if adopted.

The whole point of AV is to give representation to the 2/3rds of voters who didnt vote for Candidate 'A' with 2nd/3rd/4th options (using the example above).
Like I said earlier, I think Proportional Representation is the way to go, but thats not on offer...yet.
I dont think using F1 or any sporting occasion is a good analogy.........

Yes i voted earlier as well, could only get down to the polling station as i was stuffed full of codiene (60mg :eek:) & anti inflamatories...
The thing about the AV vote is you don't need to vote for more than one candidate if you don't want to :) On the other hand you can vote for as many as you like & leave out those you don't :lol:

If it's no, then the whole thing will be shelved for a generation. If it's yes, then if it turns out to be a flawed system it'll be changed, so even if you don't think AV is good, it's the only way that's going to get us on the road to proper PR.
I think it was a test to see if the public were actually CAPABLE of accepting any form of change and the result speaks for itself.
It will now be used as an example for many years to come of "we tried that and it didn't work" from the naysayers who had a vested interest in leaving things exactly as they were. We, the public, fell for it hook line and sinker.
