Hi,
Has anyone had the pleasure of using a jelco SA370H L.A.D arm on a 1210?
I have the option to get a NOS for about $175 from the US and was hoping someone will have tried one at some stage. Is it similar to the 750 in quality or closer to the 250?
Thanks in advance

Jamie

It is, to all intents and purposes, basically the same as the SA-750D. However, the LAD version has a different mounting distance - it's slightly shorter if I recall correctly. That said, I have successfully used an SA-750 in an LAD deck set up for an SA-370 so the difference is not huge.

I think Jelco can still supply the correct mounting template if you ask them nicely!

I'm confused!

The 750D is supposed to be an upgrade over the 370!

The 750D has better bearing and better internal wiring. Simply the best 9 inches arm Jelco has done so far.

No, you are not confused. Everything you have said is true. The 750D has better bearings and internal wiring, arguably better fit and finish. The arm tube may be different as well.

The 370 is a NOS arm, not a current arm by Jelco. It has a longer effective length and different mounting distance than the 750D and a lightweight headshell (about 8 grams vs. the heavier 12 gram headshell of the 750D).

Think of the 370 as an MMT with a lightweight headshell. Overall, closer in quality to the 250S but with fluid damping.

The 750D is a better, modern arm from Jelco.

But is it £300 better?

Hard to say. Would probably depend on the rest of the front end: table, cartridge and phono preamp. The better they are, the more likely the differences would be resolved.

In North America, difference in cost between the two is about $275 or 170 GBP.

I've owned the MMT in the past and currently have the 750D and IMO the
750D is definitely worth the extra. That's on a Michell Gyro with a Soundsmith retipped Denon 103R in an ebony wood body into an Aqvox phono pre.

I'd have to replace the headshell immediately on the 370H in my setup so that would certainly make it even less of a bargain for me as well.

Interesting, £300 difference was a bit excessive and after calculating shipping, import VAT, cable and a re-wire the SA370H came in at £329! I can get a new 750 for £345. It's a bit of a no brainer really. Good to thrash these things out though.
Thanks for the advice chaps.

£345 PLUS connecting cables I think, although I could be wrong (hope so :))
