New kid on the block

Hi there I live in Berlin and listen to a lot of classical music.
My CDplayer is the C545 from NAD and I love the sound. I have come here to find out about options to make my Squeezebox Duet receiver sound better.

The Touch is supposed to sound better than the Duet.

So now I am wondering about Duet plus DAC or Touch as it is via analog out to my amp.


I hope I can find the answers here.

From what I have read the Touch seems to be a lot better via digital and analog outputs. The DAC inside, is supposed to be very good. Never heard it myself.
As for the Duet Receiver it is a bit on the harsh side on violins etc.

I've never heard of your speakers & I doubt many others here have either. Maybe you could tell us a little about them and the company that produces them?

Nubert is are a relatively small company in germany that only sells in one shop and via internet - not via other hifi stores etc.

I bought my speakers there after listening to loads of speakes in different hifi stores and continouosly setting my budget higher, since it is not that easy to find the "perfect" speaker for classical music if you don not want to spend heaps of cash.
Through a forum I got interested in Nubert, then I could listen to them in a forum members home. After all that, I finally ordered them.

In combination with my NAD amp they sound great, they - to me- sound like the concerts sound in a good concert hall. Natural, great soundstage.
I also bought the ATM module, which are little equalizers made especially for each speaker type by Nubert, this little box makes a hell of a difference.

I know many of you will think, oh no, he connects an equalizer to his system - but it is the result that counts an I am more than happy with the result. :)

I have the box set to linear. This little box makes the speakers sound much bigger.

It is sort of like with Beresford, his DACs I found through hifi forums and now I am here trying to find out if that would be the right choice, or to just upgrade to a Squeeze Touch...

I think many folks here would advise you to do both, but to get yourself a dac first. I could be wrong, but then I'm not a Squeezebox owner. I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinion if you pose the question in the 'Digital Expressions' forum:

Welcome Dom. I'm sure you will get plenty of advice on your questions. I personally have a Beresford Caiman with Gator board, and am very happy with it (as are most owners) - a lot of whom use one with the Touch.
