Ever crimped RCAs ?

I have some 5m maplins phono cable that im about to solder some plugs on to run between my phono/powr amp. Thing is i have a pair of Atlas Navigator cable surplus that have some nice shiny plugs on but they are crimped.
I have crimped cable before at work and know you have to get the right size of blank and crimping tool to work properly. Could be easy or end in tears,
Anyone tried?

Yes, I've done tens of thousands of similar connections in various plugs, though not phono. You do need the correct crimper and dies.

Hi Fi collectve has a hire service for crimping guns. Ill give it a go.

If the plugs are already crimped onto the cables how will you get them off without ruining them ?

Might be worth having a good look at the connectors before hiring any crimp tools.

Post a picture of them if you can and someone will help.

Hi mark, the plugs are atatched using small screws. As you say its a bit risky. I would need a instrument screw driver with a big handle in order to get any torque. As you say a bit risky.
I want to play my turntable after 2 months of it gathering dust but i dont have much budget after buying my new hifi. Cant even manage WTF 10% rule at the moment. I have a Maplins round the corner from me i could buy temporary leads to get me buy until im on m feet again but im no fan after buying a soldering iron from them that is a piece of crap.

Are you thinking of crimping wires to plugs with screw terminals ?

If you are, it's most unlikely tp be successful. To crimp, everything has to be exact, otherwise forget it.

Im not sure whats inside yet dave. I dont have a quality small driver to take the screws of.

Made the mistake of taking the plug of. No way i could crimp this, its crimped into the inner polyethyene insulator.
Now i cant get the plug back on. I now have a renewed appreciation of cable manufacturers.
The cables are a very thick gauge, ten times thicker than the chord cable i have.
