I am trying to set up a 2nd system in my study!
at the moment i have an ONIX OA21 integrated amp and have 2 questions, here is the 1st one:
at the back there is labelled 'pwr-pre input' - any idea what this can be used for (Sorry if this is a stupid question!!!) - and what might be a good addition if one is possible (power amp, pre amp, phono stage?)
It is a pretty basic setup at the minute - pro-ject debut turntable from 8 years ago and lin katan speakers (on their way)

I presume this label is near a socket/s? What type of socket is it?
Andre would be your man to tell you about this gear - no doubt he'll be along in a bit.

Yes, i should have said it is a socket that has this label. All the sockets (apart from disc) are 5 pin din. This particular one needs to be plugged for the amp to work.

I think you'll find that this socket introduces a break between the preamp and the power amp sections of your integrated amp. The idea is to allow something like a graphic equaliser or some other external processor to be added. I would expect the plug normally fitted contains the necessary links to join the two sections.

Hi Keith...

Well, this socket is there to connect a SOAP ( ext power supply)... It comes to supply the phono board separately...

O21 + KATAN might be a good combo!

Thanks for your thoughts.
It seems that the plugged socket is a din plug link - the OA21 can be used to drive an external power or can be used as a power to an external pre.
I am undecided where to go with this - i am using it for a turnatable.
Option 1 buy a pre-amp (and maybe also phono stage) and use the OA21 as a power amp
Option 2 use it as pre-amp and buy a power
Option 3 do nothing

You can ask him precisely what it does - his name is Tony Brady!

It does have a pre out, but the "power in" is for the SOAP/2 power supply's to be able to have the extra grunt to drive low ohm'ed speakers...... (think Isobariks)

If you're lucky, it might have a phono board in there aswell, but you'll have to check whether it's MM or MC as they were seperate plug in boards.

These OA21 are rather gutsy and should be able to run most speakers with ease...... you won't be disapointed with the sound either!

Either way it's fantastic 2nd system
