Next Friday there will be another free Stereonow prize draw. It will be for an unused REM CD. Not sure which one yet. Anyway, to make this more interesting for all concerned there is a small ‘slant’ to this.

In order to get your ‘ticket’ into the ‘hat’ I request the answer to one question about an obscure musical connection. The answer I seek does not have to be correct. But at the least it has to be pretty close. Obviously daft and/or offensive answers will (a) be ignored and (b) will ensure that the offender’s ‘ticket’ won’t even get into the ‘hat’ let alone anything else. So, here we go:

What is the musical connection between Pete Townshend and the Tamla-Motown band Smokey Robinson & The Miracles?

That’s it – and good luck. Thanks. Regards. Howard.

PS: My error re The Temptations. Sorry about that.

Is it anything to do with 'The Action'? "Since I Lost My Baby." ?

Actually, no. But a damn good suggestion though and so yes, your name is now in the 'hat' Thank you.

Townshend loved the way Smokey sang the word "substitute" on "Tracks of My Tears", that he decided to celebrate the word with a song all of its own.
