Apologies first as I have signed up about a month ago but haven't found the opportunity to sit down and and write an introduction post.

I arrived from Melbourne and settled in London recently and found this hi fi forum when I was looking for the London Hi Fi Show.

It has been fantastic reading the posts in here and understandably written with huge amount of knowledge and humour.

As for my system, I am left with nothing after selling all my system before I left. I only kept my Luxman PD 350 turntable with me and would be looking to adding it as I build from ground up. At the moment, I am more inclined towards MacBook--->Dac--->nearfield active speakers as the small wobbly flat I am living have no dedicated listening room or will it suit an analogue set up.

Hope to know more of your guys and time goes along and I will look forward to reading your posts as well! :)

Hi James, a warm welcome to AoS. If space is at a premium, then the file based audio option could well be a good one.

What sort of music do you like? Mostly a good mix herewith folks, though of course the "usual suspects" crop up pretty regularly.

Enjoy the forum - I'm sure you will. :)

Hi James, welcome from me to AoS also :) Sounds like you don't have a great deal of room, but at least you don't live in Tokyo where people appear to sleep in little more than what look like enlarge coffins in hotels

As Alex says file based looks like the way to go to save space, apparently done right it's better than any CD player/transport :) I can't honestly say i have ever listened to such a system but i hope i get to sooner or later.

Looks like you'll be needing some room for the threatened 12" vinyl though

All the best & i hope you enjoy your stay

Hi Alex and RM, sorry that I haven't replied to your welcome message earlier.

Thanks very much for extending such a warm welcome to me.

I will be moving to a bigger flat soon so hopefully that will give me more options with my setup. Just a couple of nights ago, my missus was asking if I would re-setup the analogue system. Well of course!

With companies such as Origin Live, Audio Origami etc based in the Uk, I am now spoilt for choice!

Hi and welcome.

With some research, I reckon you could go a bundle on expanding your Macbook/nearfield setup with an additional vinyl source too. Hopefully, there'll be an affordable DAC with active line buffer able to drive longer interconnects to remote amps/active speakers and ALSO incorporating analogue input switching as well, so you could plug ypour phono stage into it ;)

Thanks DSJR and Thing Fish. Very nice of you guys. :)

DSJR, if you don't mind, I might message you just to get some contacts on where to get those Mac interfaces and also bounce some ideas off you for Mac hifi set up. I have absolutely no idea to be honest.
