..
Surely if this were put to the test, the issue of intention would come into play?
Like the person accused of shoplifting. If they genuinely walked out of the shop without paying, but would have paid had they realised, cannot be guilty of shoplifting?
If they allow people to pay on the train, but then say it is an absolute that you will be fined if you board without a ticket, then their rules are all to cock.

I am angry just reading this .... :steam: ........... It is absolutely typical of brainless minions who cannot stray from the rulebook ( if there even is a rule in this case as you question) ... Why cannot they use just a tiny bit of common sense and just let you pay the fare .. I mean if you had been trying not to pay the fare then you would not have approached him ... so you get fined for your honesty !!! ... and if there was no way in his system to backcharge you the fare he could have just let you on your way with a wink ,,, No wonder the public have such a low opinion of these services ... aghhh .... but do try to write a calm letter .. you never know .. someone may listen ..
I would wright that letter, but only by making more work for them will they just refund your money. If they say no refund then request a copy of of there rules and regulations manual, ask them to high light the rules you broke and the fine they are forcing you to pay.
Email, wright them, call them, and just be the thorn that never goes away.
When you get back on that same train, forget to shower for weeks, eat a bauloot with your mouth open and lips smacking, and fart a lot. eat beans the night before with out soaking them in water first.
Don't brush your teeth and talk loud,be an insufferable Arss from Hell.Show up a lot, take the conductors time asking 10,000 questions.
Maybe all of us at AOS can send a rules request from all over the UK and USA? Post there address and the name of the person over there department.
Use a zoom lens and get a nice close up of the conductors face, put a Hitler mustache on it,have it printed onto T shirts and give them out on the train and have people sign a complaints form about the train and it's staff. (They will give you your E72 back just to be rid of you)
If the above doesn't work you'll have to really go over the top (plan B)
You can do this Andre, keep us posted.
