Platine Verdier & Allaerts MC1B - a marriage made in heaven. I love Verdiers!!

The Verdier is playing some Miriam Makeba tonight. It's great having two arms. The Schroeder/Allaerts and Hadcock/Decca are quite different. Neither is really better - it's just that each combo suits different recordings. Anyway time for a beer and some more music!

Thanks. There are times when I wish I were still playing. It's quite hard to find something else sporty to do when you've spent almost 15 years in the middle of the front row. Anyway at least it means I can comment on what happens in the scrum when I'm watching. Shame that the team I support (Gloucester)don't have the same sort of dominant pack we had 10-15 years ago.

I'm loving the Garrard - it's a big, fat, juicy beast of a turntable (like a good Haut Medoc or late 90's Margaux compared to a Pinot Noir) and it just pushes my buttons really rather nicely thanks. :)

Just got hold of a Jico SAS stylus for my M75ED cartridge body and it's a real gem. Clean-sounding (down to its posh tip no doubt) but with loads of colour, dynamics, passion, oomph - you know the drill. How far have we come in the last 40 years? Hmmmm...makes one think.

Hope Richard won't mind me chiming in - but it's not actually a thick block of wood but ply with a veneer top - could be one solid block though if you wanted - made by this chap - Russ Collinson: http://www.layers-of-beauty.co.uk/page8.php - rapidly making a bit of a name for himself in plinths. :)

I've got a solid Russ plinth on it's way for my Thorens TD 124 and I'm just pondering whether to house my Garrard 301 or Goldring G99 next. In a Russ plinth of course.

oh boy, King - that's cool. I was going to have Russ Collinson do a plinth for me like that to house one of the Denon 'flying saucers' (but the deck didn't make it from Germany safely...).
First pic would win the competition for me! (btw, is that the AT1120 tonearm? What cartridge is that on it if so ... ?)

Yup - my 401's plinth is about 1.5" thick ply with the maple top veneer. It's not an especially heavy plinth (certainly not compared to one made from solid wood) but its is extremely rigid and the wood, being so dense, is a total bar-steward to drill through - as I found out when drilling a slot in the rear to feed the arm's phono leads through.

It's sat on a pair of Ikea Corras boards, separated by a half squash ball in each corner, between each board. This has quietened the deck down to a level where it's virtually silent, mechanically.

Not at all, I ordered a slate plinth for my 401, the 401 is an astounding TT IMO.

Wow that deck looks absolutely stunning - VERY tempted to go down this SL1200 Technics route myself by selling my 401 (though the SP-10 is the deck I've always lusted after). Those looks and the rock solid DD speed really appeal to me.

Me too. I am pretty aware of the issue regarding photos for AIHFA (dust still manages to creep into the odd one :doh:though)

Its just the above photo is lovely, but sadly for me anyway, ruined by dust. All imho of course.

That specific 103 is the Zu version they have produced during the last few years with the 103R also. However don't know if those are still available or do they perform similar mods if requested. One opinion of the cartridge -> http://www.stereophile.com/phonocartridges/1207zu/index.html

No need to reopen the competition for me but as Mike Patton sings in one of the bands hits "I'm easy" here it goes from a little different angle. Technically not so brilliant shot but the natural light has its challenges when there is not tripod around.. ;)

Hmmm looks exactly like the generic brush that is sold under a number of brands. Bought mine in HMV for less than five quid a few years ago.

As of now there are 2,090 CD players for sale in the Home Audio section of Ebay compared to 1,432 turntables. I take this as underlying long term preference for the black round spinning thingy with the arm, needle and fluff... ;)

Bearing (no pun intended) in mind that the guy who designed most of the blue horizon gear is the same person behind the RDC cones and a german audiophile genius IMHO I don't think he would waste his time re-badging an HMV record brush do you?

Why not if it works well. It takes a lot less time than designing one from scratch and getting the tooling for the injection moulding made.

The wife told me last week I had to sell either the Techie or the 401, as the Techie was sited on my stand and the 401 was not I chose the latter to get rid of although I have purposely not done anything about it as the missus will forget about it after a while she always does, anyway looking at the marvellous 401 shots I simply have to get mine fettled up properly don't I? That purple mdf plinth I have has to go!

And then some, Marco. It's a superb cartridge in every respect and the sound I am getting is far above what you last heard because of the Shelter and Choir combination.

The Shelter only cost me $400 in folding plus two cartridges in part-ex, so I'm a very happy chappy.

Hi Guys,
Fresh from a session listening to some top vinyl with Nick and Marco today I have to finish the compo as time is marching on. I have to say the standard of vinyl spinners is stunning and the photography is quite good too..:)

The winning photo is above, simple but effective and black and white to boot, pity the winner is gonna cost me in spondooliks for postage abroad:lol:

On that very subject the 2nd prize is ERNEST, oh! and guess where he lives!

The rest were hard to choose but it's only a bit of fun so not too serious if you did not win I hope, there is always the £166 million euro lottery to go for next week!

I'm truly honored as didn't see this coming when posted the pics also to this thread based on Marcos advice. Thank you very much for the kind words (and naturally also to the jury).

For what comes to the prize I'd really like to try out the Blue Horizon Record Mat against my current Loricraft one in my 401 and then transfer one or the other to my second TT. I also understand the postage issues, so I'm willing to handle my share of the burden ;)

Sorry did not see your post, a BH mat is on the way to you please pm your address as soon as possible so I don't forget! Would be happy for you to post comments on how good the mat is when you get it thanks.
