Norton security scan

My Broadband is supplied by Virgin with free AVG virus protection, my problem is Norton keep starting security scans and slowing the PC down and then saying its at risk and do I want to buy protection.
HOW DO I STOP THIS HAPPENING:steam:

Click "start" bottom left hand side, move cursor to "settings" & select "control panel"...Then click on "add or remove programs" at which point you'll get a list of all of them on your PC. Click on Norton & it should come up with "remove this program"....

You know what to do ;)

Either that or click "start" then click on "programs" & there may well be an uninstall when you hover the cursor over Norton itself..

Unfortunatley the windows uninstaller often wont delete all the files but this does.

Once you’ve gone through the install procedure, its all automatic once you clicked it and accepted any license agreement, set revo to advanced uninstall in the pop up window and select the Norton icons one by one and run the uninstaller.
Once Nortons uninstaller has finished Norton will ask you to restart your computer, select restart later.
Now you should have the revo window back up with further options to uninstall files marked in bold type. Carefully select the bold items making sure that everywhere you see a plus sign in the window menu you expand that tree to find any other files in bold lettering.
Select delete the files that you found in bold type

Go through every Norton icon that revo shows in the first screen.

Then go to computer>program files>symantic folder and manually delete that.

If that doesn’t work come back and I’ll or someone will explain how to use regedit.

Exactly...their antivirus embeds itself and puts files and registry entries EVRYWHERE...but...they do produce a software removal tool. Check out their website and have a look round for the one that matches your software.

Worst thing you can do is put Norton on a PC, it hijacks so much of your system - if it comes with it, then get rid of it would be my advice too. Install Microsoft Security Essentials, which is a free download from MS. Or buy a lean but efficient A/V program like NOD32 or Kaspersky, both are very good.

This is really what you need to do the business of removing Norton's, it and McAfee are terrible for installing their rubbish everywhere on your comp...

The best free ones (I reckon) are Avast (http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download) and MSE (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx)

Hi Paul, if i was you (even though it appears to be sorted ;)) I'd use the PCs search facility to track down any crap that hasn't been removed, i find that there is always some left from any removal :doh:

Click on "start" & go to "search" & type in "Norton" to "all files & folders" & see what it comes up with, you may be in for a bit of a shock :eek:

It maybe a good idea to get and run Ccleaner too, your registry is probably littered with Norton entries.
