Hi there. My name is Sam and I live in Essex, and have been into all sorts of music for about 30 years. I used to own a pair of Technics 1210 and did the odd spot of DJing..
My system now is a Yamaha Digital reciever, Quad 306 and BMW dm602 S3..

I am in the process of making my setup alot more compact but still would like a great sound.. Any recommendations would be great.
thanks
Sam.

Hi Sam
Welcome to AOS
A lot of people really like the Mini T amp pretty cheap lots of detail and very fast not the ultimate in resolution but very nice sounding amp
As for speakers I recently Heard the MAD 1920 speakers, very clean open and detailed and have tried them with the Mini T and the combination was really nice Dave Price did a review in last HIFI world and agree with his thoughts around these speakers
The Caiman (Bereford) DAC is prettty small but packs a punch and plenty of help here to upgrade performance even further
But lots of other speak

If you like the bass of the 602's than anything smaller and "better" is going to be a bit of a problem. I liked the original , but the sometimes boomy bass and spitty treble when new never sat right with me I'm afraid and it'll be a characteristic you'll have to educate yourself away from.

Living in Essex brings you near to many hifi shops, as well as specialists like our own hifi dave just out from Saffron Walden, itself having a good long-standing mid-hifi dealer (C&O). See what Rega have to offer you for starters :)

Thanks for reply... My husband is thinking more of a compact 5.1 sytem with small speakers.. I am happy with a decent 2.1 as I dont really want all the wires in my lounge!!
The 5.1 systems I have been looking at are Boston Soundware XS for £260 - Canton Movie 120MX for £200 or Jamo A102 for about £230.. Could you recommend which would be the best if we went down the 5.1 route..
Thanks again

Hi Sam, welcome to AoS :) There are a few of us on here that have AV setups (myself included) but in all honesty i'm not sure that anyone has what i'd class as a one box solution which appears to be the type of thing you are looking for

If i was you i'd actually try to get to look & listen to the systems that you might be interested in as at the end of the day it's you & your other half that are going to have to live with it ;)

I couldn't actually recommend or even lean towards any you have mentioned precisely because i have never seen or heard any of them & what makes things even more difficult is the fact that they have all made decent quality hifi speakers in the past

Sorry about that, i do hope you enjoy your stay though

Lol - love it.... You keep him under control, Sam, the same as I'm sure you do in YOUR kitchen, YOUR dining room, and last but not least, YOUR bedroom!!

;)

Sorry, couldn't resist! Being serious now, John's right, you should post a thread in the AV Studio, as some clever chap there may have the answer you need :)

Marco.

Welcome to AoS

Especially nice to welcome another female to the forum, as it helps to moderate the 'laddish' humour that abound here. Sadly female members are a minority in this testosterone heavy forum.

I had a distinct sense on deja vu on reading the title to your post. I used the self same title to introduce myself here three years ago.

Trust you find help in designing your new system. For what it's worth, my AV system (if I can call it that) is 2.0, i.e. pure two-channel stereo.

Welcome again
