I've finally got round to dismantling my dittons. I intend to rewire then and add new binding posts as well as isolating the cross over. I've just bought my 99.99% pure silver with teflon coating, problem is I dont know if I should crimp or solder??? There is a part of me which wants to use 11% silver solder but then again it has 89% of other bits which arn't as conductive. Do you think it would be better to add silver plated crimps??? I've just gone and bought the crimping pliers cheaply from eBay and was considering using silver plated crimps?? What do you guts think??

You have a pair of mid-resolution speakers with hundreds of feet of COPPER wire in the coils and inductor(s) driven by an amp full of wafer-thin circuit track? and myriad solder joints and and you're fussing over soldering or crimping the speaker terminals?

Just use a clean bit and low melting point solder. Silver wire really isn't necessary on these, but a good clean solder joint will be - or an air-tight crimp if you can achieve it :)

Yep these speakers are crap they sound hopeless next door to my ATC's but they are my 1st attempt at tweaking a speaker. I'm doing it for pleasure :clap:
I only ask these simple questions to further my ability to tweak.

I've always crimped first and then applied a little solder if possible. I also tend to strip the wire just before connecting rather than use a bit that has been stripped for a while. You'd probably not be able to tell the difference between solders to be honest, but you might have better ears than mine.

Yep these speakers are crap...

Lol - I wouldn't go that far, Andrew. Mine actually sound rather good: like a (somewhat) scaled down version of my 66s :)

I wouldn't have said they were crap either, just not perhaps worth fitting with loads of silver wires and solder when so much copper is used in the signal path in the voice-coils - as it is in the ATC's as well, albeit edge wound in the latter's voice coils (can't remember of the sectioning is square or rectangular, but I believe ATC had a tool to convert the original round coil- wire for their purposes.).
