Well here it is...after months of thinking 'I must get some piccies up' I have finally got round to it.
Sorry about the Tannoy being a bit lopsided...also no point in taking pics of the two as they are both the same...

Very nice indeed, so thanks for sharing. How would you say the Quads match sonically with your Tannoys? I've never heard that combination :)
Also, and I've always wondered this, is it Tannoy Sterlings or Stirlings? If Tannoy were naming them after the Scottish town (they often name their designs after towns), where the famous castle is, then it's definitely the latter...
It's just that they're referred to all over the web as "Sterlings", and being born in Scotland, it'll annoy the feck out of me if that's not right! ;)

StIrlings is correct. I had to check though as my foreign language skills aren't the best...:lol: I find Quads and the Tannoys a great match. With the chances I have to listen to quality gear in this neck of the woods, this is about the best I have heard. The Quads 40WPC and the relative high sensitivity of the Tannoys, Volume control normally sits just under 12 o'clock (50%).
The preamp is interesting in that the volume control is scaled in db's of attenuation so the higher you turn it up, the lower the numbers go.....

Very nice Ray, i really liked the sound of Quad 11's into my Strirlings, my wife hates the grills on the Tannoys so mine are naked, the Kitten likes them as clawing posts though :steam:,
i must seak out some form of isolation for mine your granite? blocks look nice

Jonboy...those arent granite blocks...they are just 15" square paving slabs painted matt black.....:lol:
I like the grills off but normally leave them on as wifey would be poking dusters and who knows what into them to clean them. I get the grill off when she is out for a while and I have the house to myself. Must say...they look really nice nude...

I did wonder hence the question mark :lol:, i have though about slabs and Celotex (insulation) also i have got some nice offcuts from some New Oak Sleepers that i was using on a job yesterday that might fit the bill, i think they are just as heavy as slabs

Note the missing TT...I'm going to have to get a shelf and mount it over by the speaker in the alcove. Would there be any problem mounting it above the speaker??...Vibrations etc??

Lovely! Quad IIs are definitely on my list of things to try before I die... I suspect those & Tannoys will have to wait until I have a dedicated listening room, or else toddler fingers would be too risky...

Me too.... those and a pair of Harbeth SHL5's are top of my upgrade trial list at the moment :)
I still have a nice set of NOS smoked glass GEC/OSRAM KT66's waiting for another pair Quads to come along at the right price, hmm got me thinking now, i know where there is a pair, i wonder if i can borrow them for a wee while :eyebrows:

Does to me John...:lol: Maybe someone with better hearing may say different but I didn't buy it for them...:lol:
Doesn't take any prisoners though, any flaws in the recording show up immediately, the system makes no effort to smooth over any faults.
Oh yes, I sense a little confusion creeping in, these are Quad II/40's (KT88) 40Wpc not the Quad Classic 15Wpc with the KT66's.

How do you rate the MF preamp as I am currently very tempted by moving away from the Icon Audio LA4 or modified Croft SMA preamps. How do does it match the Quads?

Lets just say that if it was nicked or damaged I would buy another.
Doesnt appear to have any effect on the sound at all. It acts simply as an input switch and vol control.
Levels match the Quads well. A good listening level puts the vol control at 12 o'clock, right in the middle of its range.

Anyone able to help with the position for mounting a TT shelf.
I had asked the question earlier in this thread but as yet..........
I want to put it in the alcove the speaker so I was wondering if there would be a problem with putting it there. Obviously its going to be wall mounted and there will be about a 4" gap between the top of the speaker and the bottom of the shelf.
My main concern was the proximity of the speaker to the TT...although the drivers are pointing in the opposite direction..if you get what I mean......

What can I say, sounds really good to me and getting better all the time. I have about 200 hrs or so on it so far but the consensus is that it needs 400 hrs to be fully up to scratch.
Mainly use the Toslink input direct from the Mac Mini and I dont really detect any difference between Toslink and Coax. Lots of talk 'in other places' about the effects of jitter etc but I have to say these dont seem to manifest themselves with this dac.
Have a read at the manf's website (link above) and that will give you all the techy stuff but take it from me, it sounds superb.

No takers on the requested advice about the turntable shelf so I went ahead and did it anyway. Total cost about £20 for the rigging screws (turnbuckles), everything else was lying around. Fixed to the wall using existing holes from a shelf that I removed ages ago, the cable is 150lb fishing trace wire and the shelves are some gash pieces of mdf sprayed black (not very good but hey...it works)
