We just exceeded 100% of our GDP in Debt!
No country on Earth in history has ever come back from 90%.
Because of the interest on the debt,it is just not possible to beat the formula.

The only reason we haven't gone under is because the U.S. is the only country that can print U.S. dollars and world trade is done in our dollars.
The U.S. makes fourteen trillion dollars per year,our debt just exceeds that.

And the Democrats are complaining about cutting sixty billion!
We would need to start at twice that number,cut everything back just to hold out a couple more years

We have Greece, Ireland and now Portugal. Fact is, most every country is having a hard time and some are just floating while others are just drowning.

What annoys me is people protesting and striking at cost reduction policies. What's with them and what alternatives do they think there are?

Well if you check the CIA World Factbook, the last time I looked (and it was awhile ago) China had 1.2 Trillion dollars in Gold and Currency reserves.... check that, 1.2 Trillion in reserve! :stalks:

It's not quite that simple, there is a large circle of debt, we all owe money to each other and we even borrow to lend to others, as in the case of our bailout of Ireland. International finance is not that cut and dried - ooo look, I just hit 400 posts :). I wish I could turn that into money!

I think the reason people are protesting isn’t so much the notion that we need to reduce the amount of debt, more the fact that burden of this and the distribution of wealth is unequal.

well if goverments printed there own money backed by real commodities (gold ect) then we wouldn't be in this mess.

So the question is why don't goverments do this?

Who is really running things? You can argue all day about labour,conservatives,christian,muslim ect but the people(i use that term loosely :eyebrows:) at the top of the pyramid don't give a shit about that and don't view themselves in those terms.

The economic crisis we are in now was predicted a long time ago and the second phase of it is about to be pushed by the looks of it.

That has been happening all the time. Keeps the economy going, while the money lenders pretend they're taking one on the chin for the team.

What's the definition of debt? Debt is having way more fun than you're supposed to.

I work in the social care field and I see the cuts first hand I work with people who have quite complex needs and behaviour issues. At the moment I am seeing radical changes in this field some good but most not so. We actually going back in time of how we provide support, putting lots of people together with minimal support who have very complex needs. I actually believe we putting peoples lives at risk and unfortantlly my only conclusion is this will get worse until the media start to expose this, which I cannot see happening for another few years.
One of the things I was asked to do in my period of redundancy was to re-interview people for the same jobs they were doing but at a lot less money. After thinking about this for some time I decided to say no to this request, they can get someone else to do their dirty work Lol
I am seeing someone I know quite well probarly endd up a new home with minimal support. For this person who has very complex behaviours it will mean an big esculation in Challenging behaviour and self injurious behaviour. We have have proven if we get the support right for her this behaviour is not a major issue, but make changes to her support and a massive increase in this will happen I have made my concerns very clear about. I am quite angry about what we doing to the most vulnerable people

Local authorities are deliberately cutting essential services and not non-essential roles and services in order to get peoples backs up - take alook in the Guardian, still plenty of jobs for Blue Sky Outreach Planners on £120K plus benefits...

I think a bigger problem,is cost being driven up by law suits,forcing these cuts.At some point it dose become a cost vs. impact decision.
Once you stop the lawyers from bleeding much needed funds,there will be more money to spend on those who really need it most.

Jeff no offense meant but I been working with people with profound learning disabilities for a long time now. I am already see drastic changes to peoples lives, with the more complex nature of people I tend to work with this will have a major impact on their life. It will mean more self harm and incidents of behavior happening, ultimately I am afraid it will probably lead to a few untimely deaths.
Getting support right for this group costs money, getting it wrong costs even more money
