Hello,

I'm thinking abut getting this interconnect, and will use it with my CD player.

Any members here still using the HD1000 cable? Also, is this a smooth sounding cable?

Kind Regards.

Hi Shane, I'm still using my G1000HD from DAC to Amp. (Tried the Belkins, but still preferred the MG, good though the Belkins are.) I wouldn't describe them as "smooth" particularly - just neutral as far as I can tell in my system, but there's certainly no harshness or bite in the treble - if that would be smooth enough for you. ;)

You can't go wrong really - I believe Mark will give you your money back if you're not happy, or you will easily sell them on for little loss.

Hi Shane,

I'd describe the G1000HD just as Alex has: open sounding, detailed, as 'neutral' as any cable can be, without there being emphasis on any part of the frequency range, and so ultimately it just lets music ebb and flow naturally - highly recommended!

And like Alex says, it comes with a money back guarantee - so you can't lose :)

Marco.

Yes, thirded. I have two runs: between DAC and preamp and step-up and phono amp. In both cases, the sound is tonally neutral, highly detailed and not at all harsh.

hi shane,

I have the HD1000's throughout my system and since installing them haven't once thought that they need changing or thought somethings missing from them.

Buy,plug in,forget and enjoy :)

I also have replaced all interconnects with HD1000s and second that emotion.

At first I thought maybe some life and vibrancy had been lost, but on switching back I discovered that this had been an artificial promotion of certain frequencies.

The MGs have proved to be an essential foundation to develop natural and real sounds from my system.

+1 here too, I use it between DAC to Amp, very open and neutral and I have no intention of changing it any-time soon. But as others have pointed out, Mark will let you return it for a refund if you are unhappy, so it's a bit of a no-brainer really.

I doubt you will be disappointed :)

Thanks guys.

Looks like this cable will let me hear more of my CD player.

Shane, it's a good cable, made sensibly with decent materials properly used and you have a choice of connecting plugs according to taste and budget (HD1500/HD2000). I have the middle option 'cos I'm a pauper and like the Neutrik Pro-Fi plugs in any case and am quite happy with them.

+1 to all the comments above :)

Hi Shane,

I tried the G1000HD after Hamish recommended them, I now use the G1500 in my set up, they replaced VDH cables which cost a fair bit more.
Give them a try, I have no intention of switching now.

Nigel

I use them between Pre & Power and CD to Pre. Don't feel the need to change them. As Marco says, open sounding, detailed, and neutral.

I have purchased the Mark Grant G1000HD, and I've also bought some Canare LV61S. I will use the Canare with my Musical F. X-CAN V2 Headphone amp.

The cables arrived early this morning. Thank you Mark!!!

These cables will need burning in. Will report in the next few weeks on the cables.

These cables WILL NOT need burning in . You may need some time to adjust to a less splattery presentation though ;)

I'm not so sure, though if they do it'll be pretty quick for optimum performance ;) I have various MG cables here, admittedly none of them are G1000HD run analogue but they all gave even better results with use, a few days i reckon will see them at optimum performance.

His HDMI cables certainly improved over a couple of days & yet they out performed anything i had tried previously from the off. I even noticed things settling in with a 50cm length of G1000HD used as a digital interconnect on the word clock output of the dCS Purcell.

On the analogue side it might not be quite so clear cut though admittedly ;)

My G1000HDs benefitted from a week's use. Mark even sent me burned and unburned cables for me to compare and I could hear the difference between them. The effect of well burned-in cables is that a vestige of 'clankiness' disappears, making them even smoother and more transparent.

what makes you say that mate?

all cables benefit from burn in apart from MIT maybe?

I must admit I didn't notice much of a burn in period with my G1000HD's but I'd always recommend at least 30 hours of running before trying to evaluate new equipment or cables.

Based on 10 years of selling cables burn in is essential. (Invites controversial replies)

MartinT

No controversy here, I've yet to come across a cable that hasn't settled into better performance over a week or so of running. My Kimber interconnects took even longer.

Oh I dunno, I find one gets used to a sonic style more often than wires "burning in" I think. I've just gone back to the Quad II's (with home made cable) and the difference between these and the D-60's fed by HD1500's which were new when I took the Quads out of the system was exactly the same on both occasions.

of course, it could be argued that my stereo isn't good enough to reproduce these differences  Doesn't bother me, 'cos when I do use it, the music-reproduction is superb :lolsign:

You lot will be telling me that cables have a direction next :sofa:

Just replaced my G2000HD with some Van Damme wired interconnects with REAN phonoplugs (a cheap brand from Neutrik). I haven't gone back to the MGs yet, but the system sound fine, and I'm hard pressed to tell what I'm missing. If anything it would be ambience cues.

The Van Damme based cables cost £16 a pair.

I just needed to get the dreaded "direction" right (writing back to source for this lash-up), although the difference isn't as huge as with some.

I tried Effem's "truly amazing" Belden interconnects and was in due course truly amazed. They seemed to offer greater detail and tighter bass, which focused my attention on certain aspects of performance that I hadn't noticed before.

I had developed an intermittent fault with one G1000HD cable. Mark replaced the complete cable without question. It was only when I put them back in that I heard what was missing - and this was even more dramatic than the difference when the Belden were inserted, but I didn't notice because I think you focus on the shiny new positives rather than subtler losses, even though in overall system balance and potential these may be more important.

The Mark Grant's brought a quieter background, darker, with better tone, more meat on the bones, just more refined, mature and balanced presentation in every way. Now I'm preferring to judge component changes more by their return to the system, rather than coming out. It's proving to give me greater steps forward, steps that are actually satisfying and enduring, even though sometimes it's two back and one forward.

But agreed it's about system matching rather than absolute performance comparison and judgement. Personally I have changed all mains and interconnect cables to MG's, partly because I've found they allow me to develop refined detail and high frequencies from a low noise floor rather than opting for the cabling that appears to deliver detail by emphasising leading edges. It's actually quite hard to make the choice for the less detailed option in the short term, but a choice that gives greater potential - that's part of the judgement and skill of developing a system I guess.

But these two cables have both been described as neutral, with minimum signature of their own, yet they are quite, quite different. So they can't both be or they would sound the same! :brickwall:

Nice one, mate. Btw, what are the Audiums like - when did you get those? :)

Marco.

Great speakers for low level listening, very coherent, decent bass for the size. They have a wide band mid/treble unit, i.e. no crossover between mid and treble, with a bass unit that does below 200Hz duties (the actual frequency, I don't know, but it's around that). Had them about a year, don't think they are imported into the UK.

P.S. just sold the last of my naim and naim related kit, just a few green cables to sell, today.

Marco
03-06-2011, 11:02
Lol - life without Naim ain't all that bad, is it? ;)

I like the look of the Audiums, Peter. In fact, any chance of some pics - do you have any of your current set-up in The Gallery?

Steve, you make some valid points. I'll get to them later :)

No I don't, I'll get it all done in time. I'm thinking of seeing how much I miss vinyl if I put the Teccie into storage. But I do have some records that are hard to get on CD.

The Wadia is really very good, the guy who sold it to me wants to "dematerialize", it's all the rage in France. Buying the Wadia, made me go back to CD in a big way.

Put it like this, in the way that a Teccie get's the low frequency foundation "right", that's what the Wadia does for CD, the rest just comes naturally. On the other hand, I might just move the Teccie to the next level with an adequate power supply and one of those new fangled down under bearings, etc. Just bought the missus a diamond, so I need to wait a bit. Plus I've got some goodies arriving.
