An introductory Hello

An apology to all for my late posting

My name is Martin and I live in Hampshire
I enjoy visiting this forum. The info provided and views expressed I find interesting

Listening to music is one of my interests and has been all my life buts it is really only in the last 10 years that I developed the related interest in the sources used to listen to the music.

A vinyl set up,with valve amps and electrostatic speakers is as good as it gets for me

thanks
martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for that, and glad you enjoy AoS. Where are you from, mate, and what kit is it you've actually got? As you know, we love valve amps and vinyl here :)

Also, if you have any pics, posting them in our Gallery would be great!

Marco.

Looks like you don't want to tell us where you're from, Martin, or what your actual system is, as you've also ignored my email.... I never understand why folk feel the need to be so bloody secretive - it really hacks me off!!

He might be from Hampshire, Marco? ;)

But yes, if you could add "Hampshire" to the location field in your details it would be helpful Martin.

We could guess which TT, amp & speakers fit in with Martin's description of his system ("A vinyl set up,with valve amps and electrostatic speakers is as good as it gets for me") - I'm going to go with Thorens TD124, Icon Audio Amp, and Quad ESL 57... but it would probably be easier if you could let us know, Martin. ;)

Welcome to AoS, by the way - an idea of your musical tastes would be good, too - and some pictures of your mysterious system in the Gallery thread would always be welcome. :eyebrows:

Please let us know - and continue to contribute to the forum, as I am sure you will carry on enjoying it.

The flip side to that Marco is because this forum expects certain standards (first names, locations, welcome hello's etc) from it's membership, you do perhaps attract people who make the forum a better place to be, because they are made to feel uncomfortable if they try to be totally anonymous.

There are so many other forums who have members sitting behind such anonymity, being abusive and doing little more than flaming everyone who ventures in with opposing points of view to theirs? I think you guys have it right here. But as Alex says, I think he's from Hampshire ;)

That's so true. There really are some sad tossers out there.

Indeed... Apologies (particularly to Martin), but unfortunately I don't have time to search posts for where folks have mentioned where they live (most of the time I only have time to scan-read things, unless they are of particular significance or importance)... The fact is, such info should be listed on everyone's profile! ;)

Glad you guys agree with the reasons why we ask for this information - you've got it spot on, Tim.

AoS isn't merely a 'bulletin board' or an 'Internet forum' - it's a community of REAL people, so we expect our members to treat participating on AoS just like they would living in their own local community, when socialising amongst others with similar interests and mindset.

Would you move into a new housing estate without introducing yourself and saying hello to your immediate neighbours? Doing so would be bloody ignorant.

Therefore, 'keyboard warriors', and other clowns on the Internet who seek anonymity for dubious reasons, are welcome to stay well away! We insist on total transparency here, and with it, a responsibility for whatever is written under your username.

Marco.
