Hi all and greetings from northern Finland!

Addicted, yes that's the word I guess ;) Have been fairly active in finnish hifiscene for quite some time, doing even some articles for the finnish hifi magazine and also LP reviews. Have been also lurking around this forum for some time now, and as a friend informed that one thread has pic of my system decided to register and join the community.

No matter are we discussing about hifi or bicycles to name few I like quality items that are made to last and give joy to their owner year after year. Perhaps that is the reason I like some vintage systems so much. E.g. for speakers have tried some serious modern equipment and also some broadband units like Jordans or PHY-HP units but lately Tannoy DC's, Yamaha NS-1000M's and Vintage Altecs have rocked my boat best with suitable amplification. I mostly listen to jazz, indie and progressive rock but also have time for classical music, classic rock and even heavier stuff. And for what comes to media formats I prefer the black stuff but use also CD's, Spotify and NAS daily so not fanatic about it.

Knowing my own nature, most likely will join discussions from time to time as there is some interesting threads around. If you're interested of my system or personal opinions for what comes to this interest of ours, please feel free to drop me a line. In the meantime I will concentrate to listening some music when have time from the family and other hobbies. Also looking forward how my Onken project with the Altec speakers will turn out..

Nice system. Is that a slate-plinthed 401 I see?

Always wanted to go to Finland. Nice bit of prog on the hifi and looking out of that window to see the Northern Lights, doesn't get much better than that on a cold winter's night!

Just don't tell me that the window faces south....

Welcome and great intro
It be great to have you share you knowledge and passion for vintage gear
I not heard the PHY-HP drivers but looking into the work that goes into making them I am sure in the right baffle they create awesome music

Thank you all for the welcomes!

The main window is actually facing to west but have seen some Northern lights above the river few times. Unluckily we are only renting the house from friends that are at the moment working abroad. Might be that have to return to our own apartment in near future. Luckily the room is good for this hobby also there ;)

The Garrard 401 is indeed in Slatedeck plinth with SME V arm and at the moment Zu DL-103 cart. Also using japanese Impress Laboratory SUT with Loricraft Missing Link phonostages MM-input. Amplification comes from Shindo. The best source for the Altecs can be found from the link where the pic is also taken http://www.inner-magazines.com/news/248/68/My-Altec-Valencia-Iconics/

Welcome Mika, just to echo everyone else's comments - lovely looking system and room - shame you can't keep the room, but at least you've got that lovely hifi!

Enjoy the forum.

Hi Mika,

Welcome to AoS :)

What a wonderful system (and room), even though the latter unfortunately isn't your own. Altecs rock, so :respect:

I believe that you're also a member of pfm, as I'm sure I've seen a picture of your system posted there - I don't forget systems like that in a hurry! ;)

Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay here.

Marco.

Welcome to AoS Mika.

Lovely looking system you have there, and one in a nice uncluttered room. Just love that slate-mounted 401 with the SME V (?). Those Altecs look like they could shift some air!

I shall be visiting your country next month; mostly in and around Helsinki. Looking forward to it immensely.

Mieluinen jälleen jotta foorumi

Regards

Some changes happened here lately with the Altec as now the original enclosures are replaced with 360l Onken by Jean Hiragas plans.

New speakers look very interesting indeed :)
