Hi, I've been making hifi kit for years, including record playing arms, electronics and speakers. Currently re-building my floor standers to include ATC midrange (with existing ATC bass and Howard Audio ribbons). Driven by hard wired split dual powered Cyrus 2s each side from EAR preamp and Thorens/Hadcock/Dynavector source. Last concert Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, last vinyl Bob Dylan, last CD ZZTop. Regards to all!

Hi Geoff, welcome to AoS chap :) Nice to see another builder of speakers on here & one using quality kit i might add ;) If i didn't have 3 pairs of Yamaha NS1000Ms i'd be going down the ATC 3" dome midrange route myself, you didn't happen to buy a load of 'S' model mids on fleabay recently did you? I saw 4 for sale

All the best & i hope you enjoy your stay

I know it's perhaps not forum etiquette to welcome a new member, as I'm a new member too Geoff, but as you are from Dorset I thought I would say hi and welcome aboard.

Great place here with a very knowledgeable and helpful membership - I'm also a fan of the BSO :violin:

Don't be daft Tim ;) - in a way it is much better that the newer members join in with the welcomes - enhances the community spirit that is AoS (and you're hardly a new member now anyway - part of the furniture!. :))

Sorry - Geoff - welcome to AoS - sounds like you will have a lot to offer, and hope we can reciprocate.

Enjoy the forum, look forward to your contributions with interest based on what you've told us so far. :)

Hi from me :)

Remember the very narrow usable bandwidth of the ATC mid domes, which all but prevents truly successful use in a passive speaker system (the dome takes off just over 4KHz needing sharp filtering...) ;) they don't go down very far either and are normally crossed over right in the middle of the midrange..

Dave, thanks for your note on the mids - I havn't used them before and I appreciate any advice. My current crossover is second order at 3500 driving a KEF B110 and the ribbon tweeter from the one amp. This is on the right side of the 3k8 specified by ATC - so I think I'll just try them (gently) and see what happens. I will bring the wiring out to the back of the boxes so that mods can be made in future. Rgds
