The theories outlined in the following link seem sound but as I've often found in the world of audio, there are many contradictions in opinion...

You can probably ignore the parts where they recommend their own valves as well :lol:

Pity I can't use any of them in my copper amp, though! ;)

I agree that the article linked to makes a lot of sense.

Whilst I am not really into rules; looking at the suggestions seem to apply pretty much to how my system is set up

They seem really hung up on efficiency ratings, which in my experience is definitely a factor in amp matching, but not the only one. Impedance curves, desired playback levels, room size, music preference, etc. also dictate power requirements. I'm running a 2.5 WPC amp into an 89db/w/m pair of three ways with great results.

They did offer a great tip about listening for lift and shout. I've heard more than one demonstration that involved soothing vocals, easy-sounding string music, and not much else. I speculate I know why.
