View Full Version : Will you be the one to win our prize?
As the more observant of you will have noticed, we're fast approaching three significant milestones on AoS, namely 10,000 threads, 200,000 posts and 4000 members.
Therefore in order to mark the occasion, we've decided to give the lucky member who posts the 10,000th thread a £30 HMV Gift Voucher, which of course can be used to buy CDs, DVDs, or whatever, of their choice.
So if you want to win, you'll need to keep an eye on things in the coming weeks to ensure that the winner of the prize is YOU! ;)
RULES:
1) The 10,000th thread must be posted on or before 7th May 2011.
2) The winning 10,000th thread must contain something interesting and/or witty and informative on the subject of hi-fi or music, and be at least 120 words long.
3) Inane or nonsense threads will be disqualified and the prize declared null and void - so if you want to win, make sure you get in there first before any piss takers!
4) The prize is only open to members who have a minimum of 50 (decent and on-topic) posts at the time of contributing the 10,000th thread.
5) Members of the management team are excluded.
6) The decision I make will be final.
Good luck, people. So get posting good quality new threads, and keep checking the stats for progress!!!
Marco.

As the more observant of you will have noticed, we're fast approaching two significant milestones on AoS, namely 10,000 threads and 200,000 posts respectively.
Therefore, in order to mark the occasion, we've decided to give the lucky member who manages to simultaneously post both the 10,000th thread and 200,000th post, a £30 HMV Gift Voucher, which of course can be used to buy CDs, DVDs, or whatever, of your choice.
There are going to have to be a hell of a lot of threads started very quickly or there is no way that the two will coincide :eyebrows:
Yup - I didn't say it was going to be easy... I ain't giving away £30 of my hard-earned for nothing, baby!
Or should I make it easier and just award it for the 10,000th thread? ;)

The place wil be inundated with scroungers :lolsign:
Lol!
OK, I've now edited it to show that the prize will be given just for whoever contributes our 10,000th thread, so things are now much easier :)
Previous rules above still apply.
So get posting good quality new threads, folks, and relieve me of that £30 A.S.A.P!!

Marco.
Well if you don't know...
I think Barry thinks he has, but we;re waiting for Norris McWhirter to verify it, I think... :)
I'm pretty sure it was your bloody Royal Wedding thread, but that doesn't count because it's not about hi-fi or music  ;)
RULES:
1) The 10,000th thread must be posted on or before 7th May 2011.
2) The winning 10,000th thread must contain something interesting and/or witty and informative on the subject of hi-fi or music, and be at least 120 words long.
Games a bogey, and so the money goes to charity!
Marco.
Who posted the 10,000th thread, then?
Marco.
Well actually it was me: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10934&highlight=1000th+thread.
But I disqualified myself for a couple of reasons:
First, I miswrote 1000 instead of 10,000 in the title,
Second, the thread was insubstantial; consisting only of a single question.
Truth be told the thread I had intended to be the 10,000th had been written an hour or so beforehand. I found the tension waiting for the 9,999th thread to come into being unbearable, so I posted my thread to provoke the 10,000th, fully expecting others to leap at the opportunity. When this did not happen, I somewhat facetiously posted the 10,000th.
As I have disqualified myself, award the prize to who ever posted the 10,001st thread; surely your statistics can find out what that was and who posted it.
But on a purely philisophical level, the 10,000th thread is the last of the 10th millenia, isn't it more important to consider the first of the 11th millenia? Just as the year 2000 was the last of the 20th century. Why did everybody celebrate it's coming? To celebrate the start of the first year of the 3rd millenia, i.e. the year 2001 would make much more sense.
Or alternatively give me the prize for my essay posted as the 9,999th thread. In Eastern cultures "9" is much more important: only the Chinese emperors were allowed to use 9999, and in Burma the denominations of all the banknotes were "9s"; i.e. 9, 99, 999, etc.

You deserved to win for your post on Numerology, Barry. It's a shame the timing was out! The rest of the management team have asked Marco to look behind his 'little door' to see if he might have a little something in recognition of your near miss... :)
After some discussion, we have decided to give everyone a second chance to win the fabulous top prize, with the original rules still in mind, bar the fact that we're looking for the Next Thread to meet the original 'quality' criteria:
1) The 10,000th thread must be posted on or before 7th May 2011.
2) The winning 10,000th thread must contain something interesting and/or witty and informative on the subject of hi-fi or music, and be at least 120 words long.
3) Inane or nonsense threads will be disqualified and the prize declared null and void - so if you want to win, make sure you get in there first before any piss takers!
4) The prize is only open to members who have a minimum of 50 (decent and on-topic) posts at the time of contributing the 10,000th thread.
5) Members of the management team are excluded.
6) The decision Marco makes will be final.

Hi Toby,
Here's something to cheer you up, if you're fed up with the Royal Wedding....
Since the 10,000th thread posted on AoS didn't, erm, quite work out as planned, we've decided to award you with the prize of a £30 HMV Gift Voucher, in accordance with the new rules Nick outlined earlier, for your excellent review of the NJC Audio Monitor II Headphone Amp, in Strokes of Genius:
http://theartofsound.net/forum/showt...731#post209731
We thought that this was a superb effort from a new member, and the standard others should aspire to when reviewing a piece of equipment :)
So well done! And please continue to contribute here and become (as you already are) a valued part of our community.
If you PM me your full name and address, I'll send the voucher off to you. Enjoy - and tell us what you buy with it!
Marco.
P.S I'll also post this on your thread in S.O.G (and your Welcome thread), so that everyone sees it.

He'll be pleased he joined AOS...
Well done Toby.

Excellent choice Marco, well done Toby and your review has made me buy one of Nick's amps as well, so he'll be pleased too.
Good job fella :)
Been distracted of late and unable to keep up with all of the recent posts.
Well done Toby, your first post was excellent and easily fulfilled all the criteria set by the competion. A first class piece of writing, excellent photos and all in your first post!
Also well done to the Mods for spotting it. Good job all round. :)
Let us know how you spend your prize Toby. We shall of course expect a full review of each and every CD you buy! ;)
Regards
