I joined this forum hoping it would be a good outlet for my musical muse. That turns out not to be the case.
There seems to be a hard core of posters that have it sewn up (comment wise)
I tried by posting pics - had a few responses. I then tried a thread - no responses (fair enough)
I tried heavy commenting but the stalwarts chatted among themselves as usual.
I therefore take my leave. I have not really enjoyed my time here as I feel like an outsider battering at the door. I have made a not unsubstantial 65 posts so have tried.
I wish you all good luck in whatever system you decide upon...:)
Oops! Thing Fish, I have followed your postings and believe you have just as much to say as anyone else. There are times when you might think that none of the membership are taking full notice of what you have to say. I know because, from time-to-time, I feel the same.
But that, I'm afraid, is the nature of internet fora. It can be fickle and callous.
Some of us, at least, do read what you have to say. So don't be hasty - give us a chance!

Sorry to hear you're disillusioned with AoS, mate, but like others have said, give it a chance. I think you're being a little bit hasty. Perhaps you were just having a bad day? We all get them! I certainly value your contributions :)
You may have amassed 66 posts, but it's been over a fairly short period of time, perhaps a time when unfortunately the particular discussions you've been involved in, or ones you've started yourself, haven't generated as much interest as you'd hoped, or gone the way you expected.
I'm afraid that's just the nature of forums sometimes, particularly if your main interests don't necessarily align with those of the majority (being a Linn/Naim owner may be a contributory factor, as there isn't much Linn/Naim chat here), in which case you can feel somewhat on the outside looking in. I understand that. But I can assure you that no-one's been deliberately ignoring you.
Regulars will quite naturally have things in common, as they've gotten to know each other over a period of time, but there's no reason whatsoever why you can't become one of them - you just have to stick with it and not have unrealistic expectations. The fact is everyone here has got something to offer, including you!
So on that note, give us another chance, and in the meantime, have one of these... :grouphug:

Sorry to read this, it's certainly not my intention to read threads with any bias as to the originator. I think we all tend to focus on the subjects that interest us and that's fairly natural - I would hate for us to be thought of as 'cliquey'. Your posts have been welcome and contribute to the whole. As others have said, please give it a little more time?
P.S. and please don't take this the wrong way, but it's possible that 'Thing Fish' without a personal name to call you in your sig puts people off?

When Dave first joined he gave his name (hence why I know it), but then for whatever reason, decided to remove it and put something else in.
I agree that if people want to fit in here, it's best that they always display their real name, along with any moniker :)

I don't think it's you mate, I think this place has just become more busy of late, meaning unless what you ask or say triggers a more instant response or they have somthing solid to say, they will just move on to one of the many other new posts ... When a forum is quiet and people are killing time they find stuff to say on more threads.
A busy forum is a good forum, but it can mean people once in a while feel a little disolusioned ...

I don't get this on several levels - what are 'grown men' supposed to listen to? When I look at my collection it's pretty damn eclectic and the only obvious categories missing are opera and reggae - my personal dislikes. Don't you think that variety is the spice of life? :)

There's a lot of people on this forum who do not share my taste in music either...but it's not a totalitarian dictatorship so it's up to them what they listen to.

we all have a laugh on here and hopefully don't claim to be badge snobs either, i 'm always getting ignored on here probably because i talk utter bollocks most of the time, somedays it annoys me others days i couldn't give a fcuk, lifes to short, keep at it i say and you will find your feet, as for music we all can't just love Kylie like me there are other artists out there or so i have been told, but for now just to remind you of what you are all missing and another excuse to post this picture not that i need one really

Couldn't agree more, having been a member of previous 'music' related forums AoS is a breath of fresh air. I was a member of one of the so called 'inner sanctums' and left because of the way others vilified new members at times. I vowed to never go near a forum again, but here I am! Forums can't always give you what you want, but if you can learn a snippet here and there without being flamed, then it's worth it in my case.
Like most things in life, don't treat it too seriously and just have a bit of fun along the way - variety of a Forums membership is a positive thing, we may not all be on the same song sheet, but that keeps it interesting I reckon :cool:

When i first started posting & looked at the quality of some of the posts on here i was pretty staggered.. Frankly i had no idea how i was going to fit into things but i persevered.
It took a while but i eventually found my niche. When people start talking about record decks & cartridges i shut up & let people vastly more knowledgeable than me get on with it. The thing is though i can still contribute on certain threads to do with record decks as i know a bit about electronics :)
Get stuck in with what you know & then contribute to the more sociable side of things that may will be nothing to do with hifi...
Would be a shame to see you go Dave, remember it takes all sorts...

Stick with us! I have only been here a short while but have made a number of new friends who share the same interests and have received a warm welcome from the guys, believe me, this forum is miles better than most out there and I will not be leaving any time soon.

Dave (sorry for calling you "Thing"), and sorry to hear you're feeling a bit miffed with us, but I must say I'm surprised. Mind you, at least you've got everyone's attention with this thread! :lol: ;)
I really wouldn't take it personally, and I genuinely don't think there is a "clique" here on AoS - if it comes across that way, it is probably because so many of us have met in the real world, and do share some "in jokes" - but equally, they were in jokes when I joined, and I just joined in with them! (Helps if you really are a cross-dresser, of course! :eyebrows:)
And by the way, I posted at least once on every thread you've started! ;) I loved the "Douglass Drill, Harold Hammer (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showpost.php?p=200125&postcount=18)" post!
Anyway, only you can decide if you want to give it another go, and it would be a sorry old world if everyone enjoyed everything the same - all the best to you, whichever way you decide to go.

Well ........ I left – and then the will of Marco prevailed, and I returned. And I'm pleased he reassumed control in his assertive but unaggressive way. And I don’t regret coming back.
I guess that a decision to stay or go might depend on what one hopes for on a forum. I steadfastly - despite being a retailer - do not attempt to sell anything here. That's because I seek information on matters which I'm ignorant about. This includes music. In turn I'm happy to share hard facts and/or my opinions if I can be of assistance. I'm content with this.
Candidly, I have (according to the analysis from a particularly powerful and searching psychometric test) an abnormally low need for peer-group approval. In fact that emotion might not even exist in me. Consequently I have no need for, and no desire to find 'friends' here. I guess some here though do. I won’t presume to suggest or imply that this might be you. However, I have in fact found a few ‘digital friends’ here in addition to John the Music Moderator who I've know prior to joining the first time.
Some of the techie stuff is in my view both outstanding and invaluable. Some postings here have confounded my ignorance. It's true that some posts have compounded my ignorance but hey - that goes with the (forum) territory I guess. Certainly the undiluted hostility on some other forums is outright bullying. Disgraceful. Yes, from time to time AoS can seem a bit dull – but for that's the exception rather than the rule. That's the way it pans out. I'm an oldish 'dog' now but I like conviviality and politeness. I've not found those two characteristics in any alternative audiophile forum.
Whatever your decision, I respect it. I guess the majority here do too. No reason not too. Sincerely, Howard.

Sexy? Her? Not in my book. But Gillian Anderson - she's a sexy lady. KM looks like she's trying too hard. She's BBC Radio 1 in every respect. And then there's Carol Vorderman, Shania Twain, Cherie Lunghi and so on. IMHO they represent the finest of Radio 3 & 4 combined. Or closer to home, KM is surely 'What Hi-Fi' and the others are Hi-Fi News. Thank you and goodnight.

Hey man .. welcome back .. :) .... I must say that my experiences here have been terrific when I needed help or advice .... people have readily replied to PM's ( in fact I probably have more PM's than posts) .. and even invited me round for a listen to their gear to better help me see what I want. Sure a post can remain sitillborn sometimes but that is the nature of the game ... just keep on keepin' on ... :cool:
