Frank Zappa - 'Moggio'

Steve Vai used to have to play this solo when he was in Zappa's band here's what he says about it:
".....really death-defying. To this day, when I listen to that song & the hard parts are coming up, anxiety starts to well up in my stomach & I feel like I'm going to sh1t my pants. I have only one recurring nightmare throughout my life and it's always the same one: I'm on stage with Frank & he calls out a difficult song that I had not played for 30 years"

Steve Vai - For The Love Of God

Funny you should post that, just as I was looking up Steve Vai! I can never really decide if I like Vai and Satriani's style, but you cannot deny they have incredible talent. I prefer the raw blues style of SRV

Solo starts around 1:45

Recorded 2nd November 1996, at the Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis

Ohh .. and I'm with SRV all the way ... no amount of fast playing can substitute for raw emotion and feeeeel .... now to look for some very early Peter Green ... ..........

All you need is the short code after watch?v=, so for example in this URL, you just need the bold section (JSbZBZjIDVI) e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSbZBZjIDVI - you can get this by clicking SHARE on the video in YouTube, just copy the code after the = sign to your clipboard.

Click the forums thread YouTube icon to post it and paste the code between the markers :)

Walter Trout - Dust My broom

The first time I saw Walter, I didn't really know who he was, apart from being the ex-Canned Heat guitarist..... boy did I get a shock at that gig :stalks:

Back in about '94 he did a gig at the world -famous 'Wheatsheaf' in Stoke (don't look for it, it's not there anymore). My girlfriend at the time met him in the launderette earlier in the day and he was most impressed that she knew who he was (as I have a couple of his records) plus she was a super-hot biker chick (which may have counted for more) so he invited us down to the gig fully comped. He used to play guitar for John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and when Mayall was unwell one time he took over the vocals as well and realised he could go on his own so he formed the Walter Trout Band.

Fred Frith is never going to be everybody's cup of tea (especially in free improvisation mode), but in terms of extending the boundaries of what is possible with the guitar (or guitars, No Birds is played on 2 guitars simultaneously) he's indispensable. As someone commented at the time of the release of Guitar Solos, "Guitar solos is to most guitar solos as Quantum Mechanics is to car mechanics"!

Yes quite Avant-garde but I can handle some outside playing as long as it is not to outside
