I'm about to take the plunge and buy a RCM, can anyone recommend a company or supplier of decent record sleeves. Many thanks guys. :cool:

I buy Musical Fidelity from Russ Andrews. They are easier to use than the nagoakas. Never tried Goldrings.
The MFs have no stiffness to them, theyre like gossimar.

Hi Andrew

I bought my rcm from "elusive discs" in USA,so,i bought record sleeves from them as well.
They are great but i quess the MO-FI sleeves would be good as well.Another thing that might interested you,is outter sleeves.Those are re-sealable sleves that protect your lp's cover.

Nagaoka inner sleeves for me. I put them inside the current sleeve so that record insertion/removal is easier.

Moth do some good ones and decent RCM's to boot as I have recently found out now I am selling their gear, decent stuff as well luckily!

I think the Moth RCM comes with some record sleeves in with the price.

I've used Nagaoka inner sleeves, the MOTH Nagaoka clones and poly lined paper sleeves from covers33. All are fine. It's the wet cleaning that's the key.

Just recieved some very good and very cheap sleeves bought on ebay. £9.50 buy-it-now for 10 packs of 10 = 100 sleeves - plus £4 delivery. Mine arrived next day.

They are new-old-stock 'Discwasher Valuable Record Protectors' (V.R.P). Appear very similar to the expensive Mobile Fidelity 'Rice paper' sleeves - three-ply with a stiffening insert sealed in between two of the layers.

A review and photo of them here (about half-way down the page) - these are the "Taiwanese" ones with the blue printing (apparantly the Japanese ones with brown printing are a bit better - I've got a couple of those but don't see any real difference).

I used the Nagaoka ones for a while but never liked them (too awkward). Then I bought some Goldring ones I have never looked back. They are the mutts...

Hate the horrible flimsy Nagaoka ones with a passion - bought 50 of them about 10 years back and still have 49 left.

These Discwasher VRP ones really are the business - at 13.5p each including postage I'm really kicking myself for ony buying 300 of them.

Send them my way, chaps! I agree that Nagaoka sleeves need special handling (and are best put inside the existing sleeve), but their static reduction properties are the best I've experienced.

Regarding static reduction, I totally agree with what Martin has just said. I've tried cheaper alternatives which purport to be 'anti-static', but none are as effective as the Nagaokas, the Mo-Fi ones being a case in point.

Yes, they're easier to handle, but the proof of the pudding for me is when, after thorough cleaning on the RCM, records which are played often, and are thus frequently in and out their sleeves, soon attract surface dust again - a sure sign that they're slowly recharging with static.

Whereas, with the Nagaokas, you can pull records in and out sleeves as often as you wish, and there is hardly ever a trace of surface dust on the records, obviously due to their superior static reduction properties. So I'm afraid that in this instance you get what you pay for, and so I'll be sticking with the Nagaokas from now on.

I guess it depends what matters most, convenience or the best anti-static reduction. Ultimately, I'll always go with the latter, and like Martin says, simply pop the Nags inside the existing sleeves, which pretty much solves the problem of them being fiddly, and so you get the best of both worlds :)

Interesting points chaps. I use the MO ones and the records do gather dust and pops quickly. I bought them on the back of the good reviews and im disappointed. They were not cheap Marco, they cost me £30 a pack from Russ Andrews. Their cleaning fluid isnt working for me either, Mint lp was better, so all in all ive got very little for a lot of expense:(

Sorry to hear that, Colin. Unfortunately, a lot of this stuff is just trial and error. I too bought the Mo-Fi ones on the back of good reviews, and am disappointed in them, so join the club :rolleyes:

I've mentioned before what I use as a DIY record cleaning fluid, and it's very effective and as cheap as chips. As for record sleeves, from now on, it's Nagaokas for me! :)

Got to agree with the floppy supporters - I started using Nagaoka ones years ago. I've tried all sorts of other types, but the thin ones slid into the original sleeve are the method I've stuck with. I've not had a problem with static for longer than I can remember. My zerostat pistol couldn't be more unused.
I still haven't seen a cheaper solution that the Japanese ones I linked to back near the start of the thread.

They were not cheap and I don't know if they are still available, but they were perfect: anti static; soft yet self-supporting, unlike the Nagaoka sleeves that tend to crumple.

Having said that, the Nagaokas are the next best, though I would be interested to know if anyone has used the Goldring sleeves:

As stated I have a mix of the Nagaoka and Goldring sleeves. To be honest they aren't miles apart (imho) but the Nagaoka sleeves are just to awkward in use so I went for the Goldring jobbies.

I suppose its horses for courses and could be debated for ever. Just go for the ones you like or get for the best price.
