You just couldn't make it up :D
There is some guy, well i assume it's a bloke anyway selling a load of overstocked components on Ebay with a buy it now price of £3 each. As i want a few of them i decided to take the chap up on his "Best Offer" as that is available. So here's me thinking he wants to shift this stuff so i offer £2.50 each & i want 8 of these things.....
Two days goes by & the offer doesn't get taken up, so i figure i'll up my offer a bit to £2.70, or if you like 10% off, but remember i want a few :eyebrows:
It's been well over a day now & no kind of reply from the seller...
Now if this knob puts Buy It Now Or Best Offer i'd surely expect the prat to drop his price a bit, but it doesn't look like he's going to :scratch: So why f**king well bother adding the Best Offer bit anyway :steam:

Some people I swear put goods on e-Bay and then immediately go on holiday :(

When this offer runs out tomorrow i'll up it to £2.80, if that fails i'll go to £2.90... If that fails then i'll buy them at full price & leave neutral feedback when i receive them for not accepting any offer when he's advertising with best offer ;)
I know what you mean, its happened to me a few times, its stupid, i bought a cd with best offer, i offered £1 less and was turned down, then 50p, turned down again, was also turned down at 10p so gave up and paid the asking price.
lol MartinT, im sure 90% of the sellers do this, its annoying as hell, im a seller on there and if someone messages me etc i reply within 3 hours 99% of the time, 48 hours is too long to wait.

It has happened to me that the seller keeled over before he could ship the item. It took several months for me to get my money back as well.

It's got to have happened as you point out Stan ;)
The 'Best Offer' threshold will be set by the seller and can often only be 1 or 2% lower than the 'Buy it Now' price.
The disadvantage with upping your offer bit by bit, is that you can only do it three times before you're excluded from the auction. This happened to me. I had to wait until the auction was over, and the the item relisted for me to 'Buy it Now' (as clearly the 'Best Offer' was virtually the same).

Ah, thanks for the information Barry ;) I didn't know that as i have never had any offers turned down previously :eyebrows:
Well i'm in no rush tbh but i like to get things together before i need them & obviously on the cheap. I'll bear that in mind as it looks like the next offer will be the final one before it has to get relisted :doh:

I think Marco may have a point. Ebay is a very dangerous place to be. Or rather it's very dangerous to be related to ebay buyers. In the last 10 years I have known more people to die after placing bids than on any other platform. I have had over 20 people have their grandmother die on them - one couldn't pay after he lost the same grandmother twice in a fortnight.
It's bloody dangerous I tell you:)

:D I want to buy, not sell ;) I always pay straight away, unless the auction ends at stupid o'clock in which case i contact the seller before i hit the sack & tell them i'll pay in the morning if i happen to have won...
I have 1221 + feedbacks (should be a lot more but sellers often forget to leave it :rolleyes:) no neutrals or negatives & i only buy.
This is about sellers, muppet sellers to be precise :eyebrows:

From a week or so ago I DO NOT buy audio equipment from Auction anymore,i think the last thing i bought was a pair of headphones (which are knacked) i won't be buying anymore Hi-Fi equipment anyway no matter where from.. just the odd things i need like rare reels & such but nothing more.

I can promise you i wont be buying anymore equipment, to proove the point (well i can't really) i off loaded a haul to a mate yesterday..All my gear bar an amplifier, CD player & Reel to reel, speakers are gone.

It's a real shame mate, i buy and sell the odd thing or two and i always answer questions sent to me, pack the items well (the way i would want to recieve something) and am really honnest with my descriptions, if it's knackered then i say so, but like with everything, there are some real dick heads out there, who just don't get it or are out to con you, it boils my piss too.
Just a couple of days ago i was going to bid on a turntable, it was down south and pick up only, so i sent the seller a message asking if he/she would pack it and i would arange a courier, the 1st answer came back as "yes i suppose, but it's your risk", so i sent a message back saying that was fine, but it would need to be properly packed, i.e. arm secured, platter remover and wrapped, and lid taped down, to which i got a reply "too much hassle", so it didn't sell and it's been relisted £10 less than before
Flea-bay hopefully will be dead itself this time next year, I say hopefully because I hate it with a vengeance, I have sold on there for over 10 years, have a shop and 1000's of positive feed backs, however, e-bay do not care about sellers, they do not care about buyers, they only care about themselves, or else why are they about to put up their fees? Because people are leaving in droves so they respond by hammering the sellers still clinging to a small profit like me. You cannot sell unless you accept paypal which they own, then you have to be polite at all times otherwise buyers leave neutral or negative feedback, hell the buyers can call you a twat or whatever they want, claim the item has not arrived when it has, ask for a discount on postage for combined purchases when you have made a loss on postage anyway just to remain competitive, ask moronic questions daily when the answer in in the listing but they are so stupid they cannot read or can't be arsed scrolling down to read your blurb. It was nice selling on there years ago, now it's a necessary evil!

The seller can set an automatic threshold i think, like you say ;) A good few times i have put in an offer & won it instantly at my price..
The seller can still do things manually & accept a lower offer though, at least if it doesn't work like that then why have this 48 hour thing for them to decide to reject or accept? :scratch: Or totally ignore of course :doh:

Yes, I should have distinguished between automatic threshold and manual threshold. Must admit I don't know why in most cases there is not an automatic threshold.
In one case however, I made a lower offer and the seller immediately came back with a preferred figure, one which I accepted and offered. Sort of 'bazaar trade haggling'.

Every time I've made a "Best offer", the following has happened:
Keith: Make offer
Seller: Refuse offer, make counter-offer
Keith: Make new offer somewhere between original and counter-offer, add "FINAL OFFER" to message
Seller: Accept offer.

Never had a counter offer, they have always been accepted apart from this one :eyebrows: It's just about to run out again as i type :rolleyes:

I made an offer on a pioneer ribbon cable just because the seller had a or near offer on his auction. The offer was only a couple of £ lower then the BIN. He didn't even bother replying so I paid more for the part from someone else out of spite! Was only a couple of quid in it so I thought b***ox to you I'll send my £ elsewhere!!!
I'm currently selling a set of bike wheels for the track with discs and slicks and a spare set of intermediate wets, BIN £320 or offer. Latest offer £150!!!!! really!!! would like me to come and fit them for you for that??? ejout
As its been pointed out, eBay is full of muppets and the fee's are astronomical too!!!

I went elsewhere in the end, i really can't be dealing with idiots :eyebrows: I mean if they can't even reply with a counter offer then i really can't be wasting my time :mental:
I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I get annoyed with sellers who stop the once-started auction before the finishing time, because someone in private has offered the seller a large amount of money.
According to eBay rules, they are within their right to do so (unless, I believe, the auction has entered the final twelve hours) but it's bloody annoying. I was looking at an EMT CD player when it suddenly vanished - with no record as to why!
