single source now....

Now completly downsized to playing single source music using my SB Duet streamer into a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC because it sounds SO good. I can access my complete 1650 music albums via connected 1tb hard-drive via laptop, and Internet Radio is excellent also, especially when tuned into the likes of Linn Radio streaming at 320kbps crisp bit-rate, it's like cd quality (or better).
The unfortunate bit; my Duet Receiver has just went on the blink yesterday, fault is causing my music to stop & start itself very annoyingly, so it's been posted off to a guy in Belfast to be checked out as we speak, it might even be the power supply(?), who knows, but will find out within next few days.

My LP12 Sondek t/table and Audiomeca Mephisto cd transport have been removed from my hi-fi rack and stored away, I'm not going to rush into selling these etc, my average 500 vinyl collection/cd's will always be kept.


It's the versatility of it all for me personally, wonderful, and of course the end audio result, using the M1 DAC up-sampling at 192kHz is fantastic!

converting vinyl to digital is an arduous process because its done in real time, and you'll never be able to completely filter out the background noise, clicks and pops without compromising the SQ. I've seldom heard a 24 bit Vinyl rip that's bettered the CD version. Unless you've got something that's super rare or unavailable on CD, it's best to just buy the CD imo.

Like Paul, I’ve not heard what I would consider to be a satisfactory vinyl rip.
Even if one could filter out the unwanted noise in a vinyl rip, the task of real time ripping is enough to put me off the whole idea.
Imo this is one of the reasons those who have invested heavily in vinyl collection and replay will never transfer to file based audio, no matter what sonic benefits there may or may not be; it just isn’t a practical proposition.
The best vinyl rips I’ve heard were recorded to tape and then put through a DSP, not an economic or quick process and still fell short of well mastered CD quality.

Like Both John & Paul I have to agree it's a futile and time consuming task...

I've only ever done a few rare 12" for DJ purposes, that I could not find on CD, it's worse than real time as it takes a couple of shots at getting the volume right.

Then there's editing the waveform to get a clean intro/outro, I couldn't be bothered with the scratches, as it doesn't really matter for DJing anyway...:doh:

Buy the CD every time if you can :)

Must admit the Mf m1 dac is excellent.Huge leap in performance terms compared to my dac majik with RA psu.

I gave up on vinyl around Christmas of last year having run into yet more financial trouble with the bank and deciding after losing my job, that I needed to start selling things. The first to go was the 1210 and at the moment, even though I am back in a damn good job, I have no plans to go back to the black stuff. I am now CD only and still have my Chinese Original 2008F CD player modified for UK mains going through a bog standard Beresford Caiman. OK I have a long way to go to get back a decent amplifier and speakers but I plan to go the route of Audio Note AX-2's and an Icon Audio Stereo 20 PP amplifier when funds allow. That's the plan anyhow.
