I'm happy to have found this forum, which seems to be one of the more civil audio forums in the wild-wild-web.

My system has "downgraded" over the years from all-Krell + Apogee ribbons to mainly diy - AKSA 55+ amp, own design battery powered preamp, squeezebox Touch with a range of highly modded dacs and the wonderful Gradient Revolutions (bass separately powered by an old Rotel amp).

Most recently the main and bedroom system have full digital room eq applied, which has been a complete revelation.

I listen mostly to classical, and attend lots of concerts too, so accuracy and natural timbre are important, although I feel little compulsion to attain full orchestral volume at home -- it's just too loud. However, I'm very particular that instruments sound realistic and tonal balance is not overly tubey/smooth or digital/harsh.

Hi Merv, thanks for signing up, and welcome to AoS. Would love to see some pictures of your system sometime if you can manage it - we love seeing people's kit!

You raise a very interesting point about an Orchestra being too loud at home, and I was mulling over this very subject the other day - if we really did try and recreate most music as it would be "live" in our rooms, we would all be deaf!

Well, enjoy the forum, and look forward to "speaking" with you. :)
