Glad I'm not the only one! I think being mainly a red wine drinker it doesn't suddenly get you like spirits can when one minute you're fairly p!ssed and then suddenly drunk as a lord! Does you good sometimes - well apart from the morning after, of course!

I've never yet let a single drop of booze touch my lips without getting drunk at the end of it..Some people go out drinking to pull birds at the end of the night, some go out to socialise & so on.. i go out for one & no other reason but to get drunk, i sit in the pub ignoring everyone & just carry on with my full intensions.I love to get drunk because for the length of time the effect lasts i'm out of the world, it's society & all it's reality that i detest so much.

That's why I then try to wake up in the afternoon.

It might not be good for the body, but it's damn good for the soul ... Same goes for most drugs I'd you ask me ... Being human is a curse for a good part, a bit of respite from it goes a long way ... And has done since the birth of man ...

Absinthe and a good single malt are my vices, in the past it's been substances of shall we say slightly questionable legality, at the end of the day i don't get off my face drunk every time i have a drink, i suppose it depends on my overall mood and the company i'm in, but i must say if i'm in front of my stereo and drunk i seem to listen to the music with different ears, picking stuff up that somehow i don't hear when sober:cool:

Hey Steve,
After tilting back a couple I went out to dinner with my wifes family (Christian Pakistani's).
Early that day my sisterin law told me there cousen's motherin law was upset that her sons ugly pit bull would sit looking through the glass door at our pragnet cousen. And if she kept looking at the dog the baby would look like the dog. Both India and Pakistan has alot of odd superstions.
Dinner starts and the topic becomes changeing the baby in the middle of the night.
We had had our son less than a year and I became the go to guy for advise in setting up a great changing table with a small light, wipes warmer, hand sanitizer, and all the rest of the stuff and the soon to be Mom asks me,"anything else I should know?"
I looked at he seriosly and said "Don't look at that ugly Dog!"
Her 80 year old mother in law who hobbled in with a walker shot up out of her chair and said SEE!SEE! SEE! I told you! Even the goraman/White man knows not to look at that ugly thing, the baby will look like that ugly dog!
Everyone in the restraunt was looking at us,her cousin the soon to be Mom hit me with her purse.
And we had to leave because the whole place was looking at us.
My wife and I grined all the way home.
Top That!
i'm rather partial to a drop of 45 degrees proof Ricard Pastis, just with ice and a little bit of ice cold water, drink to much and you go numb and loose the abilty to speak properly

I'm in trouble a bit. Had a bad accident at the Joinery company i worked for when i was in my teens,it was a serious back incident, when i put excessive weight on it's like a trapped nerve, i cannot get out of bed in a morning, literally cannot get my legs to move, if i roll over i can get out then i'm fine apart from walking with a stoop for an hour, slim down a couple stone i have no problems.

I gave up drinking when I was about twenty-one maybe, not had a drop since.
Before that I regularly drank but only got really drunk a few times. Once when my mates were spiking my drinks with Taquila and another when my girlfriend and I drank a bottle of Vodka and a bottle Martini between us in the space of a couple of hours. Neither had brilliant outcomes.
So I started thinking and, don't ask me why because I can't remember, I wrote to some outfit called the Alcohol Advisory Bureau I think it was and asked them for information about alcohol. The masses of stuff they sent back was shocking. It covered everything that was related to alcohol consumption. Days off work, accidents at work, traffic accidents, domestic assaults, murders, illness and death, you name it. It's the kind of stuff you sort of know about but when you see it all together it really makes you think.
So I decided I didn't need this stuff in my life and stopped drinking. I never liked the taste and only drank for the effect so don't even drink beer or the odd glass of wine and I don't really miss it. Going out with my friends and being sober when they were drunk let me see how embarrassing and pathetic I had been and it was much better to be clear headed.
I'm not preaching, you do what you want to do. I buy my wife wine all the time, it's not an issue. I just don't need it myself.

Mr Pig (Colin?), animals & even insects like to get pissed on occasion ;) They'll eat fermenting fruit & they love it :eyebrows:
Our world has been made so different from what our ancestors knew about 50,000 years ago that we often find it all hard to take in. We really haven't adapted to modern life so we tend to like a little bit of a release
Mr Pig animals & even insects like to get pissed
Like I say, it's your life. If you visited my house and wanted to drink beer, wine or whatever that's cool. My wife drinks wine, I buy it more often than she does!
But there are pros and cons. I weighed it up and decided it was not something I felt was worth it. I've had narrow escapes and know people who've been hurt both physically and emotionally through drink. It's dangerous stuff.
I know people who work with alcoholics and I can't think of any of them who drink. The possible outcomes are too real to them. It's like smoking I guess, it's always someone else who gets the short straw, you'll be fine. My father-in-law smoked heavily his whole life, laughed off the risks and I'll never forget how stunned he was to be told he had lung cancer. He was dead within six months.
Drink actually kills more people and does more damage than smoking and all the other kinds of drugs put together. If you don't believe me go and find out for yourself. It's devastating. It's a beast and it can turn on you and really f*** your life up. Not you? I've spoken to guys living on the streets in Glasgow who thought exactly the same thing. Lives turned upside-down. One guy had a joinery business, his wife died and he took comfort from the bottle. Lost everything except the clothes on his back and they weren't too great. My uncle, drink driving cost him his very good job and consequently his marriage. Guy in my class at school jumped over a railing whilst drunk failing to realise there was a ten-foot drop on the other side. Heck, I'm sure you'll have 'stupid drunk' stories of your own. All very funny. Until it's you and it's your health, family or job that's taking the hit.
Like I say, it's your life dude :0) Nothing to do with me. If other people want to smoke, take drugs or whatever that's their business. Just don't try and convince me it's a brilliant idea. I'm not an idiot ;0)
Reid Malenfant
13-03-2011, 21:13
I smoke & drink as it happens ;) I agree that both aren't a brilliant idea but then i really don't want to live to a ripe old age & be on my own when my body starts to fail :eyebrows:
I'd rather enjoy myself as much as possible now & pop my clogs at about 55 or 60 :D

Steve's first post on this thread was a belter and should be preserved for posterity - such was its hilarity factor and sheer honesty. Awesome!
Regarding alcohol, as I was brought up with a very different culture (the Italian way of life), I have rather different views on the consumption of alcohol to most of you guys.
Wine is simply an accompaniment to good food, both of which Del and I enjoy, however when the food is finished, then so is the wine....
Quality real ale anytime, or ice-cool Pils on hot summer's day, I love, but no more than a few pints. So yes, I drink in moderation, but I do enjoy drinking!
I wouldn't judge anyone else's habits, as people are entitled to do as they please :)

i wonder if that's a permanent marker:scratch:
I drink maybe three or four times a year on average. I’ve never got on with alcohol.
Like Mr Pig, I’ve seen some truly tragic outcomes from alcohol abuse. Thing is, because its legal many people don’t actually think they’re abusing it until they have serious problems; one advantage to illegal substances perhaps, you tend to think more about it

I will try to keep away from the laptop next time. To be honest it is not often that I drink these days, and when I do it will be because we have friends round who are also going to be drinking. There is a pile of empty bottles from wine and various spirits waiting to be recycled now. I had a sore head today and as always I tell myself I will never do it again lol.

We were talking about this at work a few days ago, a colleague and i have both lived abroad and noticed how in Europe people can go out and enjoy themselves, get blazing drunk too, but without getting violent, also the number of people that are shit faced at 2 or 3 in the morning on a night out abroad is minimal with the exception of Germany.
We concluded that northern europeans tend to drink to get drunk, where as southern europeans are more social drinkers, also in the UK bars and clubs tend to close all at the same time, meaning you have masses of people knocking back a rapid succession of drink before closing time, then all these people either want a greasy kebab or a taxi at the same time, which spells trouble, whereas abroad bars and clubs will stay open all night so folks tend to stay out longer and so either don't get stupid drunk or sober up a bit before they go home, plus there's no big rush for the taxi rank.

I loved the hell's beels bit.
In my teens, my friend's parents had a caravan in Pitlochry, which my friends were sick to death of so as soon as they were old enough they refused to go. Their parents had no choice but to leave them at home, so basically we had a party from the Friday night to the Sunday, every weekend! One of the things you realised very quickly was that it was a bad idea to get drunk and pass out before everybody else!
We had a friend called Alistair who was a thalidomide, one of his arms stopped at the elbow and he only had three fingers on each hand, and he was a big, fat, full-on guy. He got plastered one Friday night and fell victim to the razor.
Alistair had a moustache and beard so one half of the moustache went, the other half of the beard and both his eyebrows. If you've never seen someone with no eyebrows it looks really weird! His pubes also got shaved. I don't know why they did that, I guess it just seemed like a good idea at the time, but looking at the sleeping, mutilated hulk a troubling thought occurred to us. When Alistair woke up and saw himself in the mirror he was probably going to kill the first person he saw! About twenty people crashed that night and I think just about all of us were in the one room! ;0)
In the morning Alistair battered down the stairs and threw the livingroom door open. Before we could worry about who was getting thumped he asked what the time was and ran out the front door. He was late for running his mother to the doctor and the first he knew about the state he was in was her screaming when he walked in!
He took it well though. Turned up a few hours later, having removed the rest of his facial hair, he didn't really have much choice, and with a dog's choker chain tied around his forehead to complete the look! To say he looked mean was an understatement. Big fat head with zero hair and a chain around his head. How mean? Well he and a couple of the guys went down the town that afternoon and the police arrested them on sight! Nothing came of it, they were all let go later when everything was explained.

Me and a few mates much inebriated, decided to do some mischife to a mates car when we were about 17... Someone pointed out that should we be caught with the keys bythe police we would be in trouble ... So we broke into it instead
It was a nova saloon so getting in was a peice of piss ... Hack saw blade down inside the door to hock the lock up and presto ...
We took everything we could get off with a screwdriver and put it on the roof - bits of dash board, gear knob and gator, matts, inside door panels etc.
Then opened the bonnet, took that off, put it under the car. Then took the battery, ignition leads, plugs, air filter and a few other bits bs put them on the front seat of the car ...
Needless to say he was not a happy bunny ... In fact we made him cry ...
Drunk teenagers can be so cruel!
I just don't like getting drunk, and being a diabetic alcohol seriously screws with my body. I love a nice beer occasionally and will treat myself to a good bottle of ale maybe once a week. I do keep beer and wine in the house for others, so it's not a problem for me.

That was a funny day ... What can I say, I didn't have enough hands ...
Me and dan got our selves into all sorts of bizarre ones ...
Loads of people chucked change at us when we were sat under 5 ways in brum after a night out once ... We could get home to worce, so we just mooches around until the morning ... Went to shelter from rain and got mistaken for hobos ... Still, we got a pint out of it ...
In hind sight we should have given the money to real homeless people ...
That seems like so long ago now ... It was probably only 7 years ... These days a rarely stay out past midnight ... Back then, the night hadn't started at midnight ...
That's a horrible image I don't want in my head!
I know, lurvely innit? And I was just about to make some cheese on toast!

Drunk teenagers can be so cruel!
When we were teenagers in the summers, one or tow of our various parents were stupid enough to go away on holiday and leave their 16 year old son "home alone" - so we would have one long party going from home to home.
One of our mates got so pissed he passed out on his bed, and someone came up with the bright idea of carrying him out into the garden. Then someone suggested putting his bed in the garden, with him in it... Next thing you know, we moved his entire bedroom contents onto the lawn - wardrobe, chest of drawers - everything - arranged exactly as it was in his room. When he woke up in the morning he got the shock of his life and thought someone had stolen the house!
