Sorry, couldnt think of a decent title.
This morning i went to a ear clinic in Londons west end. I get trouble with ear blockage since i was a kid. They specialize in micro suction , a lot nicer than barbaric syringing although in the end he ended up sticking a funnel in my ear and digging around with a hook. Cant believe the crap that came out, all of it stuck on my eardrum. Took 10 mins and cost me £60 but holy shit its like im using a new amp. More highs bigger soundstage and better sound seperation:lol:
Serious though the guy scared me to death by telling me i have a condition where the my mastoid bone is shrinking or something and to keep an eye on my auricular health. Amazing what you find out when you go private.
Very happy i can hear again and i think my neighours are to.
Makes you wonder how many elderly people have been coerced into buying a hearing aid when they may just need a similar proceedure.

Just take care not to do this unless you really need it. There seems to be a tendency for it to need doing more often once you've had it done once (any type of mucking out of the lug 'oles)

Well i had it done two years ago and ive had syringing about 3 times in the past.
With a hand held syring you get in a gp surgery i would strongly recommend avoiding. Nasty experience, worse than root canal. A water regulator is a lot more gentle but its best effective with soft wax not solid impacted like i get.
I get psoriasis so its compact dead skin cells.
The doctor told me to come in once a year for a free check. If its bad i need treatment and have to pay which is fair enough. I imagine if i dont do anything, apart from going deaf i might be more suseptable to infection.

Colin, go down to your nearest chemist & buy a bottle of Exterol ;)

I have small ear canals & unfortunately they over produce ear wax :doh: Every so often, maybe every year or two i'll all of a sudden notice things getting a tad muffled & lower volume in one ear, time to sort it out in both..

I have a small syringe that i was given to flush the sockets of my wisdom teeth when they were pulled. A few days, maybe 4 of applying the Exterol & i fill said syringe with warm water & blast away. Take it from me that it is vastly better you doing this than a quack, you can feel if it hurts! Last time i had this done at the doctors with a new machine that pulses the warm water out i came away with bleeding ears ffs :eek:

Thanks for the tip. Bleeding ears holy christ. I do wonder if some gps just have a go without reading the manual. I did feel a lot safer with this guy than any other bruiser district nurse ive had. Seemed to know when it was uncomfortable and eased of.

Olive oil works v well to soften the wax, was recommended by the District Nurse that visits my Mum.

Trouble is what came out could only be removed with force as it was larger than my canal. Might be worth putting in a drop everyday though.
Leaving it to the stage i did could leave me with scar tissue and screw my hearing for good!

Every day might be a bit excessive, that reminds me to put some in Mum's ears.

Colin, just use Exterol when you need to fella - IE when you notice one ear going a bit off. A few drops about 3 times a day will help dissolve the wax & it'll start shifting itself in a couple of days. I must admit i get impatient at about the 4 day point as once you use Exterol you'll definately go deaf in one ear virtually straight away, so i syringe it myself & it always clears..

You can almost hear atoms hitting together if you have been deaf long enough in both ears :eyebrows: Now i can do it myself (DIY) i never bother with the quacks.

Only costs a £3 small bottle of Exterol every few years. Just bought another small bottle recently as i have a feeling i'll need to have another session shortly :eyebrows: I may be wrong though, but for £3 i'm not going to cry over it :)

I'm really pleased for you.

I've had threshold shift for the last 6 months which on some days is miserable but on others is OK for listening to music. When you have an ear problem it makes you realise that a lot of the likes / dislikes that people have about certain equipment are probably often because we all hear slightly differently.

I think you make a good point there. It might sound daft but peoples voices sounded very sharp and uncomfortable today and it reminded me when i first listened to my speakers for the first time. Now i find they sound smooth. Its like i was hearing different frequencies of my music for the first time and i made the mistake of thinking it was to bright.
I might be talking rubbish though because ive just had a glass of wine and a herbal ciggarette ;)
