I've worked in broadcasting and TV for 20 years - was BBC trained in both sound and vision mastering and processing.

I applied for a mastering job - I was told that I did'nt have any relevant experience and would have to spend at least 5 years doing nights on reception at the studio being paid - wait for it - £3000........A YEAR!!

At the end of this period I would possibly be allowed to move a fader.

There is simply no money in this at all now - big studios like Abbey Road are barely able to survive now - if you are a mix engineer on a commercial recording expect to get paid no more than 80 pounds a day!!

This is the sad truth and one of the many reasons why commercial recordings sound so awful now - I have left the business altogther now - believe it or not on my CV I am actually classed as unskilled now as I have no relevant qualifications that can be included in the modern workplace.

Stay away from anything to do with what calls itself the recording industry.....there is no industry now that will pay anyone anything amounting to a living wage - by that I mean you can earn more working on a Tesco checkout.

With regard to the video it's very interesting - I have most of the software and hardware systems he is using in my own home studio including the interfaces yet still could not even think of being able to get a paid job working in an operation with an identical setup.

It is this that I find so totally illogical about what has happened to technical jobs in this country..

It's ironic but quite believable when HND's and BTEQ's in 'music production' are so easy to come by. It would still be nice to be able to spend the day doing that sort of thing. A rich man's folly obviously.
