Good luck John, i hope all turns out well in that department ;) Bit of a shock to see a Tsunami alert as soon as i fired up my browser i must admit :scratch:

There are probably going to be a lot of small islands in the Pacific that are really going to suffer, 8.9 is a big quake :eek:

The pictures on TV are truly shocking. My niece was involved in the Christchurch quake - her flat was damaged and university closed for a while and she went home to Auckland safely. This time around the damage looks enormous, I can't begin to imagine how to start rebuilding on such a scale. 8.9 is incredible - and the expected (overdue) Tokyo quake hasn't happened yet.

I hope you hear from her soon John. The telecoms networks are probably seriously compromised, and under a lot of pressure from everyone else trying to contact family and friends.

Jhon, I'm sure shes ok all there lines are down.
The only phones out are satalite,most cell towers and land lines are dammaged.
Lets just hope there nuclear power plant dosent leak or he will show up.

It looks bad John

Just been watching footage on Japanese News TV and they are showing the damage to the plant. A wall is buckled and looks burnt. Several workers are injured and the area of evacuation around the plant has been extended to a 50 mile radius.

I hope they can sort this out before it gets worse :(

Looks like it makes the previous 2004/5/6? thing look like a bit dropped off :(

Lots of earthquakes & volcanic eruptions recently or is it just me hearing about them due to global journalism?

I thought that and was trying to find stuff out about it yesterday ... Couldn't find much but then just happened to hear on the radio that although it does look as though events like this are increasing it's not actually the case...
It's because all the most recent events have happened in more heavily populated areas in quick succession ... Apparently it's just a very tragic coincidence! I think 2010/11 is supposed to be a la Nina (I think it's the opposite of el niño) year or something which is supposed to explain the crazy snow they had in the US over Xmas ... Also a coincidence that it's happening at the same time as this other stuff ...
Don't quote me on any of that though ... Just bits I have picked up ... Don't know how true any of it is

As an aside, it's really hard to see another nuclear accident. I am one of those who believe it is the only possible way forward to generate the power we need, but the dangers never go away. Power needs are going to put us in a rock-and-hard-place scenario in the future, no doubt. I won't be here to see the worst of it, but my son will.

i am finding it realy hard to take all this in, just goes to show how fragile our enviroment is, one minuite these people were happily going about their daily lives, the next, this!:(
as for the recent events at the power stations, well i guess we will all be waiting with anticipation for the news that they are finaly shut down and therefore rendered safe.

It certainly makes you appreciate the relative safety of the uk ... I can't imagine living in an country where in schools they teach the kids what to do in the event of a natural disaster! I gues you get used to it, but nothing could prepare for whats happening!
That said, one of the guys on RPF was stood by a river taking photos of a train when he witnessed a river bore travel up stream that made the river rise 8-10" ... That happened on the west coast of America... Madness ... Makes you think just how small the planet can be when these sort of things can happen

Just hearing on the news now that there has been an explosion at the nuclear plant that was in trouble Fukasimi no1 reactor. I hope this is not as serious as it sounds.

Japan needs this like a hole in the head :(

I think this earth quake has some how beat out every Godzilla movie for damage.
It just seems to keep getting worse,I ask my self whats next would there volcano eroupt spouing red hot lava and ash into all the mess.

I wonder how it could get any worse.
I didn't get just how bad it was till now,Japan will need total rebuilding.

I once knew a woman who survived the Bomb dropped on Nagasaki.
She had skin problems and brittal hair her whole life after that.

All I can say is the world should send ships to take people out of Japan till they get things resolved.
Japan is so small it may never be livable should the worst happen.Also volcanos tend to awaken after a major rumble/after Japans qwake the volcano erupted in Indonisia.
Japan has a huge sleeping volano.
I think we should all,take in the people of Japan till it's ok.
I could let 3 people stay in our liveing room,the new couch folds into a bed.
The world needs to to come togather on this one.

On the news earlier, they were saying that another reactor is in trouble this one at a different plant further north. So first plant one reactor blows they also have another bad reactor and a new one is in danger :(

Very sad bad days for Japan.

I agree goraman the world needs to step in and help now.

Now would be the time for China to step up to the plate and help Japan.
If they want to be the worlds next big superpower it comes with responsabilitys and obligations.
The U.S. may but it's nose in where it dosen't belong but we have also been the first ones in to help and loads of money any time there is a problem.
Let's see if any middle eastern countrys offer help.
I fear when the U.S. collapses the world will too.
And we most likely will as our debt is unsustainable.

these poor people have nothing left now, the least the world can do is show that we are all human beings and at the end of the day pull together to do what we can, i just heard a guy on the radio talking to jeremy vine saying we shouldnt help because we have our own problems here in the uk :scratch: just made me angry to think there are people who think like this, yes, we do have problems here with homelessness, and poverty, these are a long term things, and not on the scale that japan is experiencing almost over night.

I was just thinking,the Toyota Camry,now out of production ,Camry parts out of production.
There movie industry hit by qwake damage,how will there economy ever recover.
The 2012 Godzilla movie was being made with the U.S. market in mind,and was expected to do well,It may seem like a trivialal thing but if California was devistated people would wonder about Hollywood movies and micro prossesers being held up,and the vinyards for wine.
Japan must find away to keep there products on the market or they will loose market share,and there economy will be the next big disaster.

Terribly sad.
Their wonderful culture aside, most things i use in my home that give me pleasure in my life have been manufactured by Japanese.

It helps to put things in perspective maybe , i really don't think the Japanese people are concerning themselves with the latest Godzilla movie right now !

I hope the Dog's owner's made it to safety , but i fear the worst .

It is way to much to take in.They are trying to get there industry back up and running,Toyota just anounced they will be producing some parts but not all there cars for awhile.Japan is in horrable debt and they simply can't afford to slow down production of goods for export.
I am a big fan of Godzilla movies and hope they will be able to get there studio back up and running,but I'm sure it's not there biggest concern.
They put a very large budget in this one.

I am in awe of there stoic presistance and ability to rally in the face of disaster.
I hope they evacuate everyone from the nuke plants soon.
