Hi again Tony,

Now I've got up off the floor... ;)

Are the cabinets specifically designed for audio support use? They look pretty solid, but I can't help thinking you could make some improvements in the sound with more solid support/isolation? (The floor looks potentially bouncy in the "cabin"(?) - maybe not, or it is wood on a solid floor?)

Just surprised to see such exotic kit not on "proper" supports and not meant to be critical in any way! :)

tony trios
10-03-2011, 15:16
It is audio support, although no where near the sort of match or cost of the equipment. There seems to be a complete shortage of racks that can
a. support the weight
b. look good
However, I have tried pretty much everything else that I would consider having in my man den, the system is very revealing, this is the only support that I can say does not interfere!! I have been told by who I feel is a god in hifi terms, that what ever you stand equipment on, it will replicate and you can hear it i.e
Glass gives bright sound
Wood gives dull sound etc etc,
Having heard it with my own ears I believe this is true.
The floor and cabin is a weak link, however plans are in to build a 10m x6m room as we speak.

Alex_UK
10-03-2011, 15:20
Thanks for the explanation, and good luck with building the room! I suspect that's an upgrade all of us would love to do one day, I know I will when I can. Please keep us posted with some "In progress" pics. :)

tony trios
10-03-2011, 15:24
I will keep a picture record, I would be interested if anyone can come up with some ideas as to suitable racking that I may not have come across.

10-03-2011, 15:37
That system is simply stunning. If those components sound half as good as they look it must be sublime. I'm hoping to dive into tubes and efficient speakers some day, but I doubt I'll be able to achieve this. Good on ya bro.

Tony - one of our members Twelvebears (Steve) went through the process of having a separate room built - you might find these threads of interest:

Hopefully some of the discussions back then will be helpful to you, or at least thought provoking.

Thank you for the advice in seeing someone elses music room. Really interesting advice and very helpful.

Like I said, I believe my system is not every bodies taste, I am very interested in other systems, I am sure that there are many different choices for many different systems.
I would be very interested in your choice of system, so to see what made you go down the route you chose.
I have listened to things like Adams, other horns, as mentioned in the intro, all of which I must say I thought were great. In my opinion, I thought that the Trios were a smart piece of furniture, as well as a three d picture that I find very difficult to explain.

The one thing with Horns, is that they are marmite!!!!

Not as a generic, but individual models I would agree with you. Some (e.g. Klipsch) are horrible shouty things, but others (e.g. Horning) are superb transducers with the ability to take your breath away.

Hi Martin T,
I really am expressing my opinion on the looks alone, I have not experienced any others (apart from one other). I have obviously read that they can be coloured and shouty, although in my experience this has not been the case. I did have the pleasure of listening to Kevin Scotts Olympians WOW what a piece of work, the sound is to die for, and the attention to detail is stunning.

Indeed, the last time I had a fast bike though I did regret it  Well I still have it actually but I doubt it'd fire up..

The bug is still there, I just don't fancy having another holiday courtesy of her majesty. Doing six months inside is no fun let me tell you :nono:

Reid Malenfant
13-05-2012, 18:49
Oh yes, back to the heart of the matter :)

I'm happy with the whole system, except I can & will be building better speakers, hopefully I'll be starting that very soon indeed.

I have all the drive units to do the job, now it's just a question of getting the work done  That reminds me that I need to make a load of room in the garage for a big load of sheet wood that I also need to order.

Once all five of them are done & dusted, that'll be it for this system.

That list is out of date I reckon, though not a great deal has changed if the truth be known.

Very nice Duke there Tony - I'm trying to work out which model, but you've made quite a few mods so not sure if it is an early Biposto totally tricked out, which is what I'll guess... (SPS/R had the 5 spoke wheel I think?) I absolutely love the 916 shape - and will get one someday. Meanwhile, I'm in the process of recommissioning my Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja - 14 years old, bought new by me and I've done only 8,000 miles and virtually as new still.

Still hankering after a Duke though... might take an 848 out for a try. :)

Ride safe!
