Dunno if anyone had any experience the same, but around our area the buildings are getting all the gas pipes cut off & stolen during the night by idiots..This is the second time this month i've come home to find our gas pipes missing, our gas meters are outside around the back on the wall, each supply then fed thru a pipes across the wall & into each flat..I've been on a double shift since yesterday, come home dying for a bath to find a card thru the letterbox saying emergency gas capping please let the council know! i'm freezing my bollox off as it is obviously being nippy in here
I knew something was wrong when it stank Gas outside as i was getting out of the taxi, if these muppets have lobbed the pipes without isolating the supply they are beggars belief, they truly are..I have been out to have a look at the damage to find they chopped off approx 2mtr stretch in all! 2mtr ffks, are they desperate or what? thats well less than a tenners worth to buy new from an hardware store so they aint gonna get jack shit for it scrap. they must be chopping a hell of a lot of pipes per night to make it pay.
That is not funny :steam:

hi Andre,
thats nuts! What the heck do these people think is going to happen when they cut off a live gas pipe, Ohh thats it, they dont think, Bloody idiots indeed, scrap value has increased over the last few years, But not to the extent that its worth putting peoples lives at severe risk just for a few quid.:(
Anthony,TD...
Oh, FFS... That utterly beggars belief!! :mental:
You'd just *love* to catch the brainless clowns at it and give them a damn good cock punching!!! :punch: :punch:
What are the police doing about it - f*ck all, as usual?
Marco.

This is beyond stupid what people do for a few quid, if i were you i would get a cheap small CCTV cam and aim it at the wall where the pipes are, hope you catch them, beat the crap out of them and send them on there way, you could call the police but these days its not worth it, you would probably get in more trouble than the pipe thieves for recording them on secret CCTV.

This kind of thing drives me absolutely nuts, akin to someone keying your car. If anything wells up a lust for violence in normal folk its petty destruction like this. When you compare the amount of time/effort/money that it will cost Andre to repair this, as opposed to what the theives will get in exhange for their loot, it makes no sense at all. Respect is at an all time low.
I'm gonna catch em if it's the last thing i do..

They will just be passing through the area. When the heat gets too much they will move on to pastures new. Bastards.
Our local electricity sub station's been done twice in the last year...they throw an iron bar into it to short it out before nicking the copper etc. Lets hope next time the feckers fry!
It beggers belief... :steam:
Scrap-metal theft seems to be the 'in' crime at the moment. I'm signed-up to the local police RingMaster info service that lets you know whats going on, and almost every week there are reports of grids/manhole covers being knicked, pipes and cabling and peoples gates and fences etc.

Ive looking for a word, but this will do. SCUM
WOStantonCS100
02-03-2011, 16:48
SCUM is apparently universal. We had a problems here with people making off with copper pipes and wire from folks' HVAC systems. Now you have to have a photo ID and "papers" to sell scrap copper. It hasn't caught everyone; but, has significantly slowed down chronic offenders... ...for now.

I find this post to be extremely offensive. I object to the use of the word i**ot; one of my neighbours is one of those less fortunate people who suffers from i***cy, and I don't think it should be allowed to make fun of such disadvantaged people, especially not on the public forum.

The local Pikey types knicked 5 stainless slides from 5 different play areas from one of the District Councils i look after at the end of last year, that made the local news, then bugger me just before Christmas i was watching the lunchtime Local news and my parents pop up on the screen telling everyone how they felt about having had 500 litrs of heating oil knicked from them, they were just one of a number in that area, we now think that they follow the fuel delivery driver around to see who's been topped up, or he's in on it as well
I have no time for these type of people after having two of my trucks and all my tools knicked over the years, my human compassion would fail rapidly if i catch them again, makes me go into one just thinking about it :steam:
Wankers the lot of them
Jeez, Andr'e, I'm stunned with disbelief. What on earth could be the motivation for that, a couple of quid? Don't you just want them to do one too many and have the gas explode in their faces?
Sympathy, mate. Let's hope the council do the right thing and act pronto.

I think it's just about all over the place :( Various electrical substations have had cables ripped out of them here in Pottyborough, i even remember one that knocked out at least a quarter or this city not so long ago. They must be nuts as they were dealing with 133KV ffs
Lots of church roofs with lead going missing & other places that only notice when rain starts peeing down on them inside buildings
Loads of telephone cables as well, whole villages round here have had there phones cut off as underground cables have been ripped up, as well as lots of man hole covers made of cast iron.
Crazy, but cutting a gas pipe without shutting off the gas really does take the mickey  :mental:

Jon, your parents are not alone! Just last week my partners sister had her oil nicked from the tank in the garden... turns out the week before the police had stopped a van at the side of the road to find it had a huge tank in the back, a 50M hose and a pump running from a car battery. Unfortunately, the two occupants got away and the van had been bought on the mainland from an auction with cash and a false name had been given. All this information came from the officers who attended my partner's sisters to check out the oil theft. A couple of years ago, a half mile section of a road close to my brother's house near Chester was closed for months as thieves had stolen the cast iron man -hole covers overnight! Since they were so old, they all had to be replaced. Of course they were sold for scrap.. Some very famous wrought iron gates were taken in Liverpool a couple of years ago too, those of one 'Strawberry Fields'!
This type of theft is on the increase as fast as the price of the oil / scrap goes up. For those interested in protecting the oil tank in their garden look at the link below, I will be getting one for our tank..

Just my way on Monday some gits broke into the Vodafone switching centre in Basingstoke and stole some custom switching racks, giving several million Vodafone customers no signal for the day all across the M4 corridor. I understand that the stolen racks may well find their way to China where there would be willing customers for them.
I suspect this is the start of something new, putting all the mobile switching centres at risk. Sooner or later a life will be lost when people can't dial the emergency services.

Cheers Steve i'll pass it on, oh and thier replacment fuel went up dramatically over that month and cost a lot more per litre to replace just to rub salt into the wounds
Just remebered i was watching the French news the other day and the light fingered brigade have been nicking the power cables from the french railways as well :mental:
Unbelievable. Hope they get what they deserve.
people here have been cutting mains station lines (fully powered).
A guy just died doing it thousends of volts went through his body and blew up a sub station.
One of my neighbors to boot. I live in Roseville a small train town. It says he has a brother in Yorkshire.Just kidding about that. http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/17/3409645/man-identified-after-police-say.html

A couple of things like that happend around my are, the 1st incident a pikey tried to chop through a live sub station cable with an axe, silly bugger blew half of his face off, he was in a right state and to top it off he ended up doing some time for it.
The second incedent was a lot more serious, a gang of pikeys decided to remove about 200 meters of train track from one of the branch lines between Darlington and Bishop Auckland, and it was only that the driver noticed the track was missing that avoided a serious accident, complete madness.

Does anyone know by law how long the council can leave us without gas? It's getting beyond a joke now since last Wed we've had no heating hence no hot Water. All we have are electric heater we keep for emergency that is costing an absolute fortune to run aswell as boiling the kettle to get a wash & wash the pots..

hi all,
what realy worries me is who is buying these items ? man hole covers, railway lines etc, surely these people know these things arent legit ? i know some of the big scrap dealers simply ship most of their scrap so probably dont realy care what it is, but those who run regular scrap yards are with out doubt taking a big risk in accepting this stuff. As times get harder there is probably going to be a lot more of this happening, There will need to be more stringent checks at scrap merchants, and higher fixed penalties for those people who knowingly accept this stuff, otherwise i fear we can expect thefts of steel, copper, and cabling to escalate, these people have no morels,so you cannot appeal to them in the normal law abiding way!:(

Anthony, there will always be dishonest traders who will accept stolen things even when it is obvious they are dodgy. As long as this happens this type of crime will be on the increase. There should as you say be more checks on the dealers but who will pay for all the extra staff to do it? The police are probably not that interested and lets face it the government are making massive cuts at the moment so I doubt they would thinking about it either. This means of course that it will be in the increase more and more as the price of metal and oil etc rises. It is a real issue over here especially the theft of oil, and if I had the money I would start my own business fitting the tank alarms myself, a booming market I feel!

Ooops, sry, seem to have stumbled on the reactionary old bastards thread
The amount of generalized slagging off of other sections of society without any knowledge of their circumstances isn’t looking good for tolerance, justice and understanding in this country is it.
