MF X-Can psu problem

Calling all experts !

The stock power supply wallwart for my MF X-Can V2 died at the weekend so I went on ebay. ( Mistake number 1 ? ), There were no MF power supplies up for grabs so I splashed out £7 on a "Mascot" 230VAC 50Hz 12VDC 500mA AC/DC Adaptor ( mistake number 2 ? )

why doesn't it work. The light comes on but nobodys home. I'm obviously not too bothered about the pityful amount of cash i spent but if all the Hz and volts and milliamps are the same why doesn't it work ?

Hi Hugh, is there any chance you could post up exactly what it says on the MF wallwart & the one you bought? Just to make sure about things you see...

Have you considered that the DC plug that is fitted to the new wallwart is the right size? I'm guessing it'll be 5mm or so in outer diameter but the internal pin sizes are all over the place :rolleyes: From less than 2mm to more than that, it simply might not be making contact.

Lastly are you sure it was the wallwart that died? :scratch:

the Mf one says - AC ADAPTOR F34ADT - 8

I/P : AC 230V - 50Hz
O/P : AC ..............oh f*&k........it's not an adaptor from AC to DC it's an adaptor from AC 230V to AC 12V

what a knob !

anybody need an AC/DC adaptor ?

There you go... What you need is a 12V AC supply or there is a good possibility that a 17V DC supply might work, it depends if any voltage doubling is taking place inside the X-Can itself..

Better off with 12V AC me thinks ;)

The X-Cans need a 12V AC 500mA power adaptor, with a 2.1mm plug.

Rock grotto do the little pinky psu for the x cans. Set you back £100 though.

with £100 I would buy a £10 wallwart ( the right one this time ), Radiohead's Amnesiac, Diana Krall in Paris, something by The Jeff Healey Band and maybe some Bocherrini. All good quality vinyl.

I would build my own ...oops already have !

get your self a 230v ac to 12v ac transformer of the range 30 -50 vac its a simple matter to get a suitable case ...ie maplins ... plus the other bits ...cable plugs for each end etc ... should have change from £30 ....it will also improve the sound
