Hi

I'm thinking about adding a sub to complement my Spendor sa1s and wondered if anyone has any advice. The Spendors are good to about 75 Hz, so I'd need the sub to take over duties from there on down. I am not concerned about shaking the walls apart; I think I'd be satisfied with good quality upper bass. I want tunefull not thunderous. I don't have nearly enough brownie points for dual subs and ideally I don't want a monster box. Price... is secondhand 300 notes doable?

You should be able to pick up a decent secondhand REL sub for that sort of money, that'd be my recommendation. If you want it musical then make sure it's a sealed box unless you can find some of the earlier REL subs beginning in "S" (Stentor, Storm, Studio etc) cheap ;)

I you willing to have 10" Then I go down the Augee route at Hawnthornes Very tunefull bass but you would need to add sub plate you probarly can do it all for about £350

Thank you both. I've been looking at the RELs. There are a few old Strata IIIs available that might be worth a punt.

John, I've been following the recent discussions about OBs and Dipoles. I love the idea of making speakers, but I'm not a natural craftsman (I find it all a bit incomprehensible to be honest). I must attend a bake -off soon to listen and learn.

They really quite simple If i can make them I am a bit cack handed and I had no issues. A lot of DIY stores will cut for you so just a question of bolting on. Going dipole on bass is great for music but very low sub bass frequencies in films best to stick to a standard sub
