View Full Version : WTD : Subwoofer
Looking to try a decent subwoofer , is anyone considering selling one ?
Looking for a quality make , not plastic boxed ones if you know what I mean .
If so please PM or notify here .

I have one, but I don't know how you would get hold of it if you did decide to take it off me. It is a JBL HTPS300 with twin 12 inch drivers and amp built in. I can't use it these days since my neighbours complain the plastering on their walls is falling off..
Care to send details of cost & location please via PM ?
Thanks

Hi Paul
Would you consider Dipole sub woofer(s), I really love what they can do and need cost silly money if you into DIY
I'm happy to consider most things , DIY or buy ready built .
Then I go for something like an Augee from Hawthorne in a open baffle arrangement with a good sub plate. Plenty of slam but very musical
“It seems to me that many listeners confuse bass weight with bass extension and opt for a subwoofer when bass weight is lacking. The problem typically lies in the upper bass, the octave from 120Hz to 240Hz where much of an orchestra's foundation and acoustic power resides. This is the octave that box woofers have a hard time coping with, basically managing to sound boxy through this range. In contrast, the Augie managed to shine here, elucidating instrumental fundamentals with consummate clarity and 3D realism."

if you wish to go down this route they are few here that can help with the build
Thanks , will look into this with interest .
so what did you do
a rel?
No , I'm actually going to do it 2 ways .
I've bought a sub woofer privately , it is from a company called BK , which I've not really heard of but am assured they are as good as REL . I'm also going to self build one using some items that are being donated , just need to build the appropriate box now from MDF , veneer to suit , then test them out against each other .
I use the BK sub plate and its pretty good no idea what the sub is like
