Hi folks, it's been a long time since I have been here, I have been busy running 3 businesses and building a car in my spare time. Now that's done I need something to put my mind to and have been playing with valves.

I have had so much fun that I have decided to go in to selling valve amps. My plan is to offer something at just under the 500 mark, it will be switchable from ultra linear to triode, it will have 4 EL34's and will output 32 watts in UL, 16 in triode, so should have plenty for most people's use. I will have to have them manufactured in the far east to meet that cost price but they will be designed and made to the highest spec. We will be using very high quality transformers, the prototype weighs a very healthy 22 KG.

I just want to gauge interest really before going in to full production, I plan to have a demo unit running at the Bracknell Audio Jumble on April 17th.

Is this something you guys would consider buying? Am I totally mad? Any and all comments are most welcome.

Dave.

Hi Dave,

I think that's a superb idea and would be very welcomed by folks tentatively dipping their toes into 'thermionic water', as it were, making the transition from transistors to valves more pain-free and less risky. I'm also sure that any finished products would qualify for the AoS 'SPPV' seal of approval :)

What I'd suggest you do, in order to give your idea more publicity, is start a thread in Blank Canvas, discussing the various aspects of your proposal, where I'll make it into a sticky, as not everyone will notice your thread here

Marco.

P.S You should add your website address to your signature A.S.A.P ;)

Thanks, Marco, I will do as you suggest. I have had a lot of fun researching and experimenting, the results with my transmission line speakers have been better than I dared hope for. Still got a lot of work to do to make sure the product is as good as I want it to be but it's looking good for the 17th.
Dave.

Marco, I have started the thread in blank canvas - can you delete this one so people don't think I am spamming the board, please.
All the best
