Having said that, I have been outbid on a couple of items only to have the seller contact me to say the winning bidder could not/would not complete, so would I be interested in buying the item for the amount I bidded? Again, I always assumed those 'winning' bidders who defaulted would be reported by the sellers and their bidding rights would then be withdrawn.
You can only withdraw a bid BEFORE the auction ends, it has been this way for years, so no it's not a new thing, one the auction ends and you have the highest bid you CAN'T withdraw it, I thought you were talking about prior to auction end

The bid that was withdrawn on the Matisse Pre Amp was done BEFORE the auction ended.

If anyone offers a next highest bidder deal then they might have more than 1 of the same item, OR they had a mate shill bidding to boost the price and it backfired because they 'won' it.

It's cheaper to shill the bids than put a reserve on an item

More loony Decca related pricing. Over £200 (posted) for an SME/FFSS adaptor.

    I'd sooner make one myself.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

The Ascot tends to be 'below the radar' as far as Tannoys go, but actually sounds pretty damn good. It has the real 'pepperpot' DC magic.

    Yes. I've got a pair!
Ending in a minute. £398 at the moment. May get more bids. Has to be a record for these. I normally expect them to go at around £200. Tannoy stuff is going loopy these days.

Not sure if it's much of a bargain but may be of interest to folk here, it's in Edinburgh:

Thought by some to be the Holy Grail of direct drive TTs. The asking price is more or less typical for a "BBC" EMT 950.

Old EMI speakers. Model 350 units in boxes at a ludicrous £400!! Take a zero off the price and you'd be about right.
