All of the best HiFi is built by one-man bands or very small groups.

Paul is one of the good guys, whilst I haven't heard his gear I've enjoyed his posts on the forums & reading about his experiences.

Yes, I've enjoyed reading his posts too. Always considered and informative. It's a great loss that he no longer contributes to any of the forums.

Yes I'm a cranky bugger BUT I've been 'fooling' with these crossovers since mid 70's Made a LOT of mistakes.. also learned a few things along the way
Want a serious/ genuine improvement..on your OEM crossovers?
2 choices:
a) Recap them (only! the caps)

This will make Marked improvement.. V cheap And easy..Most are V happy with the results
a) Follow Troels' design

For a slightly better result.. Gonna have to have a Really GOOD system to notice the improvements though

Anything else is merely Brochure babble delivered to Garner Income. Sad, but too often true.

Truth is Tannoy did a damned good job of it.. only Very small improvements are retroactively possible.

Seriously wanting to improve your DC's sounds to a markedly 'better' level ?
Go for an active crossover setup and ALL that involves. It's a Heavy path though.

Thats an honest post, but, after hearing the before and after effects of PAuls work on my Tannoys I would have to stick with Paul's work. In fact, I'm having my current XOs redesigned again and yes the effects will only be subtle but I view the financial outlay as proportional to the improvements.

Danilo, I've warned you before about making inappropriate comments about people's equipment, and rudely slagging off respected, highly qualified manufacturers here, by referring to them as a "shed upgrade business", also comes into that category.

So, you're out for a week, and during that time I'll be considering whether you'll be wanted back even after that, as I don't really think you belong here.

Just to update the thread with my thoughts having taken delivery of a pair of Paul's custom Tannoy crossovers last week.

As others have said, Paul's customer care is second to none and he was very generous with his time.

The care and attention to detail that went into building the crossovers is quite apparent as soon as you unpack them. The build quality is quite literally awesome. It's immediately clear why Paul is prepared to offer a lifetime guarantee. They look like they will last a lifetime

I've spent the last few days immersed in my system and I believe that Paul's design really delivers in comparison to my fully recapped stock crossovers. The main improvements that I've noticed: my system sounds more open and less constrained through the mids; the imaging seems sharper, more defined especially front to back; bass seems to have more definition and texture; horns and piano sound especially lovely. Overall the presentation feels very natural and "right".

In summary, I couldn't be happier and would strongly recommend Paul's custom crossovers to other curious Tannoy owners.

Adrian, they were really simple to install primarily because of the time Paul invested with me to make sure I got what I needed.

In addition to the crossovers he supplied boards cut to size to fit in the hole in the door left by the outgoing crossover control panel. On these boards he mounted a locking silver plated xlr socket to which he wired up the Tannoy 4 pin connector that plugs into the driver. He even drilled and countersunk the screw holes in the boards and supplied the screws.

Mine are the kensingtons so a little different, though Paul has assured me it's not too difficult. They may well be my Christmas present.
