Read this and get clued up: Wiki DSD. Note editing is generally done is PCM land anyway etc etc.

And this: JRiver - how to convert DSD to PCM.

if you "understand" digital theory all this high res stuff is questionable anyway. TBH though most high sampling/bigger bit depth stuff I've heard has sounded pretty damned fine though - whatever the reason. Go figure...

I have a fair bit of DSD on SACD and it is a significant improvement over CD. I've also tried the free downloads at http://www.2l.no/hires/
This looks an easy way to give DSD a go.

You can use a de-embedder to rip the DSD file from an SACD, Atlona make one,not expensive then store the files on your NAS.

I can see the point of having a DSD decoder (well I should say I can see why some people may want one) but not of having another analogue stage to pass your already converted signal through?

According to the aes there's not really any perceptable difference between Hi Res PCM and DSD: http://old.hfm-detmold.de/eti/projek...paper_6086.pdf

Have you done this? I would love to rip my SACDs to hard drive. The Sony PS3 solution I looked at some time ago seemed too much like hard work.

I don't have many sacds but wanted to rip them to my NAS. I bought a cheap 1st generation PS3 and modified it as specified and it works fine. It was a bit of faffing about to set up though. It's also slow as a wet week!
