    Default ARC 101 speakers

Hi guys , having a little spring clean and would like some advice please.
I have a nice set of these 101's in black, they have their original tweeters and the crossovers plugged in on the back , trouble is the woofers are not original but they're peerless drivers , I know that the original mordaunt short drivers (dsb 208 ) or ms pageants come up often on fleebay .
My question is are they worth refurbing ? I mean do they sound Attachment 19941Attachment 19942Attachment 19943as good as some say ?

    Yes. Decent speakers.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Yes, I had a pair in the early 80's bought from Bespoke Audio. I seem to remember they sounded quite decent. Not sure regarding the Mordant Short drivers, seem to think mine were Peerless. They had the X overs plugged into the back so they could be removed for active operation. Nytech was one manufacturer who made active X overs for the 101's. I think there were several model changes and an early model than mine was fitted with Scanspeak tweeters. I have heard good results from 101's being driven from good pushpull valve amps. They didn't like too much power up them and could bottom out on heavy bass from some of the Telarc Vinyl I had at the time. Mine expired when a Crimson Amp that I was using went dc and burned the coils out of them. Just coincided with ARC going bust so I never managed to have them repaired.
