Guys, I think it's important to keep a sense of perspective on this and remember, as has been shown here already, that the world of image hosting doesn't revolve around Photobucket.

And as they say: 'where there's a will, there's always a way'...

Therefore, whilst I fully agree that what PB have done is unfair and outrageous, as well as highly inconvenient, some of the 'wailing and gnashing of teeth' (giving up, as if it was the end of the world), and 'I'm not playing anymore', etc, in evidence here, is a little ridiculous.

Sorry, but I have to be honest. In that respect, it's time for all of us to deal with things as best as we can, not allow it to spoil the enjoyment of our hobby, and move onwards and upwards!

I guess if the bulk of one's contribution here is to 'three words daily' then you're not going to feel the loss to the same extent are you.
One of these days... I'm going to cut you into little pieces.

Photobucket went slower than a snail in slowville. I dont really use it anymore but to be fair I will often use things with no sense of paying for a service.

I understand that things have to be paid for but they did advertise the service as free to use. I just dont like the way they are clearly pushing me to pay for a premium service and slowing everything down with advertising. Either its free or it isnt. I call it the Wikepedia effect...do we donate or do we really want to pay...have they shot thmselves in the foot? I get the sense that photobucket are thinking whoops we should have charged for this in the internet dot bubble

I was just using it to post pictures on forums and I think all forums should have a direct upload link from my computer. cant see the need for a middleman. I cant really see the point of photobucket otherwise so I dont want to pay to use it.

I dont download the free games with advertising or in game purchases because Id rather pay for the game outright. Ok I did a few in the past but only when the minimal advertising is off when my data link is off. Anything with obtrusive advertising gets deleted pronto.

So if photobucket cant afford to/dont want to run a free service I would rather they just said pay or clear off

Not sure what that's supposed to mean, Rich... The bottom line is that PB have done what they've done, it's shit, yes, but not the end of the world, so we need to get over it, use Imageshack instead, or something else, and move on.

Moping over/moaning about circumstances that are out with of our control solves nothing.

Yes and I now see the reports that they have rendered the photo links void as everybody will have to pay.

Im not worked up about that because I dont really need this world of image hosting. I used to post some pictures on another forum and photobucket was the only one I had really twigged.

There are a lot of things on the internet I dont need and I dont see how they can come up with a monetary value for the business.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me how important image hosting on a third party site is?

I have my windows photo gallery and my photo albums I do like being able to save a picture of a Dalek for example and I usually directly upload and download with my computer

    Best wishes
    Martin

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

You want consensus on a hifi forum?

I've been using Imgur since the photobucket debacle and it's been fine.

I've joined Imgur anyway. Now the long boring and only required due to photobucket being twats process of replacing all my images...

I just wish there was something we could do to really hurt photobucket!
