In January of this year I paid a visit to James (jimbo ) of this parish , who kindly put me up for the weekend . The whole weekend is documented elsewhere on the forum . Whilst there I became very impressed with James own system which consists of VPI and GL75 turntables , Croft pre and power amps and Spendor speakers . James informed me a couple of weeks later that he was about to embark on an experiment where he was going to install another Croft power amp into his system to biwire . I believe that the extra amp wasn't to his taste and he kindly offered the Croft to me for the price he had paid for it . As I was intending to try these amps in my own system I took him up on his offer and duly installed it into my system . While I was very pleased with the result I knew a Croft preamp was also required . Fortunately a Micro 25 preamp ( with remote volume control ) came up locally and I was knocking on the sellers door within the hour . I installed the preamp into my system and both pre and power amps have been there ever since .
With the addition of the little Taket Batpur supertweeters , some fantastic new mains cables from David at MCRU , and a Denon DA 3000USB DAC I feel my system is complete .
It has taken a few weeks for this system to come on song , however '' on song '' it has become . The level of detail which I'm now hearing is fantastic . I'm now hearing previously hidden details on tracks which I've been listening to for years . I was listening to Nitin Sawhneys album Beyond Skin last night and was taken aback at the SQ . As I listened throughout the day I had a stupid grin on my face , track after track .
The supertweeters and the DAC have been welcome additions to my system , however , in my opinion , the gamechanger has been the addition of the Croft pre and power amps . I've had quite a few amplifiers in my system over the years but I truly think I've reached my destination with these latest additions .
